Tactile and Visual Sensing June 14, 2006 ©2006 CSUC Institute for Research in Intelligent Systems Tactile and Visual Sensing Sensing is converting a quantity that you want to measure into a useable signal (usually electronic). Why do Robots need Sensors? ©2006 CSUC Institute for Research in Intelligent Systems Tactile and Visual Sensing Five Senses: Auditory Visual Tactile Rotation Sensor Olfactory Taste Light Sensor Touch Sensor ©2006 CSUC Institute for Research in Intelligent Systems Touch Sensor electrical flow force a simple switch ©2006 CSUC Institute for Research in Intelligent Systems voltage measurement Light Sensor Measures the level of light as a number between 0% (total darkness) and 100% (very bright). Can differentiate light levels reflected from bright and dark surfaces. ©2006 CSUC Institute for Research in Intelligent Systems Rotation Sensor Measures the rotation of an axle or shaft. The rotation sensor sends out a series of voltage pulses. There are 16 of these pulses per one revolution of the Lego rotation sensor. These pulses are also referred to as “ticks”, “clicks”, or “counts”. ©2006 CSUC Institute for Research in Intelligent Systems
