Karaka and Olearia trees Today YOU are going to learn about Karaka and Olearia trees. Karaka trees • Karaka is an plant which has leaves in every season. • These are called ‘evergreen plants’. • Karaka is a serious pest species in Hawaii. • The fruit of the karaka tree ripens in summer and autumn. • The karaka is a very hard tree and is usually found in coastal locations. • The fruit appear in the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. • It is quite poisonous to humans. • Maori people loved this food, who would take away the pulp that is poisonous and keep the hard kernel inside. • The Karaka is twenty metres. • It can have life up to thirty to one-hundred years. Olearia trees • Olearia is a New Zealand native plant used a lot for medium hedges. It is also has under it a very white shading of green. • They were used to make a path so people wouldn't get lost. • This tree has eight different species. • It was named in 1998. • 1 specie is called the small- leaved tree daisy. • It is mainly found in the North Island. • Presentation by Danny Chen and Annika Lee.
