The main animals in danger of extinction are: Panda, Koala, The Puma, The Gorilla, The lynx, The condor, the polar bear and the tiger. Causes: Humans can cause the extinction of a species due to overexploitation of an environment, pollution, habitat destruction... Today, many enviromental organizations and governments care about the extinction of species and ensure their prevention. Exemples: WWF,Greenpeace… Graphics Habitat destruction The agriculture is the principal cause of habitat destruction. Other important causes of habitat destruction include mining and logging. Habitat destruction is currently as the primary cause of species extinction worldwide. The habitat destruction cause the death of the animals avoiding to reproduce (extincted species). Habitat destruction pictures Solutions: Protect sections of natural habitat still intact, Educating the public about the importance of natural habitats and biodiversity. And use other means to get things in the environment without damaging the habitat. Invasive Species Invasive species are animals, plants or other organisms introduced by humans in places outside their area and have managed to settle into their new habitat where they are harmful. Some invasive species are: The European rabbit: A few couples were introduced in Australia, and today is the greatest plague of the country. The gray squirrel was introduced into England. Today has been at the red squirrel to the brink of extinction in the British Isles. Invasive species pictures Invasive species cause different impacts. Are distinguished: Biodiversity loss. Economic losses due to damage generated in the production of crops and livestock. And exotic diseases. Poaching Poaching is illegal hunting or fishing, it maybe illegal because: Hunting or fishing off-season established by law. The animal or plant is in a restricted area. The means used are illegal: traps, explosives to kill fish… The animal or fish is protected by law. Other information In 1981 he created the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in U.S.A. A company official aim of this society was the protection and conservation of marine and stop poaching. Poaching pictures Protected areas Protected areas are locations which receive protection because of natural, ecological and/or cultural values. Protected areas are essential for biodiversity conservation. Today they are often the only hope we have of stopping many threatened or endemic species from becoming extinct. Other information In the future these areas will grow in number and in importance, as the Nature Conservation Act states that nature conservation programmes can be realised as smaller protected areas. Pictures Graphics Our personal opinion Floren: From my point of view I think the issues we have discussed are important and we should think more to improve all the problems that cause the extinction of animals and problems with the environment. Lorena: In my opinion I think we would have to take better care of the environment and caring for animals. And meet the established laws that defend this matter.
