Global Warming
 Global warming is the increase in the
average temperature of the Earth's nearsurface air and oceans
2 Causes of Global Warming
 Methane
While carbon dioxide is the principal
greenhouse gas, methane is second most
important. Methane is more than 20 times
as effective as CO2 at trapping heat in the
atmosphere.
 According to the textbook it is because of
the increase of greenhouse gasses
Greenhouse Effect
 The greenhouse effect is the process in
which the emission of infrared radiation by
the atmosphere warms a planet's surface.
2 Causes of the Greenhouse Effect
 About 30 percent of the sunlight that
beams toward Earth is deflected by the
outer atmosphere and scattered back into
space. The rest reaches the planet’s
surface and is reflected upward again as a
type of slow-moving energy called infrared
radiation.
 The textbook states that it is caused by
gasses trapped in the atmosphere.
Ramifications of Global Warming
 Climate Change, Rising Sea Levels, Glacier
Retreat, and altered patterns of agriculture.
 There will be a higher average temperature
and a change in climate.
Ramifications of Greenhouse Effect
 changes to the climate, changes to average
and seasonal rainfall, storms and storm
surges.
 In the textbook. it says without greenhouse
effect there would be no life of earth.
Efforts to reduce global warming
 hybrid engines, renewable energy, Energy
Star appliances. The text book says to save
energy.
Efforts to reduce Greenhouse Effect
 Some ways to reduce greenhouse effect are
to cut down less trees
