BELL WORK
Stellar Phenomena
Today we will be viewing
various stellar phenomena.
On our test we will be
diagraming the life cycle of a
star, explaining the EM
spectrum and how
astronomers ID stars.
Notes
For each photo, work as a
group to come up with
facts from our notes
relating to them.
OR
Describe them fully
Stellar Nursery
What concepts, facts,
details can you come up
with for a Stellar Nursery,
or better known as a
Nebula?
Main Sequence Star
Should know at least one
example of these… 
Red Giant
Red Giant is in our future!!!
This is just a comparison
between our sun and
when it changes. Super
giants are even BIGGER
Supernova
When do they happen?
Why? What can follow?
Neutron Star
One possibility
Pulsar
Similar to Neutron, but
emits X-Rays
Black Hole
Black Holes
We KNOW they are there
from observations… but
since you can’t really SEE
them, only their effect, its
just a really solid theory.
White Dwarf
After Red Giant Phase
2nd pic was described as a
cocoon.
Black Dwarf
Not visible, consist only of
IRON and no fusion is
occurring.
Practice!
Create a concept map for
the life cycle of a star.
You have done this
BEFORE, refine it, make it
coherent. Be able to
describe different steps.
