could understand people
and the world better.

Education in the Renaissance
• Renaissance humanists believed
that education could dramatically
change human beings.
• Humanists studied the Roman and
Greek classics. Studied grammar,
history, poetry, and rhetoric.
• Most humanists still strong
Christians so sometimes felt tension
b/w their studies and religion
Education in the Renaissance
Following the Greek ideal, humanist
educators also stressed physical
education, including dancing.
The goal of humanist education was
to create complete citizens.
Humanist schools provided the
model for the basic education of the
European ruling classes until the
twentieth century.
