Transcript
CERNAVODA Departure in the morning from the harbor Cernavoda. The city Cernavoda was
founded during the Roman Period and had the name Axiopolis. The northern part
of the roman fortress is still to be seen. From here begins also the Danube – Black
Sea – Channel that was built during 1978 and 1984. From Cernavoda we drive
about 1 hour and 15 minutes to Constanta.
The Greek colonists founded Constanta as Tomis in 7th century B.C.
Today the city has over 350.000 inhabitants and is the second- biggest harbor at
the Black-Sea, after Istanbul. The flourishing period of this city began in the 1st
century A.D. Here lived the writer Ovidius Publius Naso, who had been exiled by
the roman emperor Octavian Augustus. He has written his last great works, “Tristia”
and “Pontica” in Constanta.
The city tour begins with a stop at the Ovid– Place. Here we can visit the Museum
of Archeology. Further will be visited the Orthodox Church “Peter and Paul”. Not far
from the church lies the Genovese lighthouse from the 15th century.
A very important moment of the city tour is the visit of the Casino, a building that
was built at the beginning of the 20th century. It lies on a cliff, exactly like the
Casino from Marseille and Monte Carlo and is the symbol of the city.
After the city tour, we will go to lunch in Nunta Zamfirei (Zamfira’s Wedding), in
Eforie Nord. Here we will be delighted by a folk show, which represents a typical
Romanian wedding, with all its customs. Meanwhile we will eat Romanian dishes
and taste 4 of the wines of the region.
In the afternoon, drive to Mamaia. This wonderful resort lies north of Constanta and
is called the Black Sea’s Pearl. Here we will have the opportunity to walk on the
beach, visit the shops or drink a coffee at the seaside. Afterwards, we drive drive
back to the harbor Cernavoda.
