2013 – Wildlife Rehabilitation Internship
May - August
3 funded & 1unfunded Internships
Purpose: The student will gain a working knowledge of the most common native wildlife conflicts between nature and
humans, and the non-lethal solutions. Students will gain experience working with the public and the importance of
customer service and the importance of public education on topics involving wildlife and human interaction. Learning to
listen, communicate, and follow instructions in a close team environment will be a goal along with learning to work with a
staff of volunteers. The student will learn proper species specific wound management and supportive care, caging criteria,
handling techniques, animal enrichment skills, release criteria, plus other skills relating to wild life rehabilitation. The
student will have an opportunity to work with the department supervisor to select and complete a special project.
Requirements:
 Must be seeking a post secondary degree in Biology, Pre-Veterinary, Zoology, Conservation, or related field of
study.
 18 years of age or older
 Able to complete internship between May 1 – August 31, 2013
 GPA 3.25
 24 hours week (schedule is negotiable)
 Pass background screening
 Work in a drug/alcohol free environment
While performing the responsibilities of this internship, the student is required to talk and hear; use hands and fingers to
handle/feel. The student is regularly required to stand, walk, reach and pull with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to
stoop, kneel, or crouch. Lifting and moving heavy objects required and other moderately strenuous activities. Vision
abilities required by this job include close and peripheral vision. While performing the responsibilities of this internship,
the student is occasionally exposed to moving parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work area is usually quiet to
moderate. The employee will be exposed to extreme outdoor temperatures and weather. Students will be working around
wild animals and the waste the animals produce; as well as, the materials needed to care for and clean up after the
animals.
Funded Internship - $1000.00
Location: Sanders Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Sippo Lake Park – Massillon, Ohio
