Our Solar system has got 8 planets and Mercury is one of them. Mercury is the nearest planet to the Sun and the smallest planet in our Solar system. This planet is coated with stones and craters. On the Mercury there is no atmosphere and oxygen too. Mercury is similar in appearance to the Moon it is heavily cratered, has no natural satellites and no substantial atmosphere. However, unlike the moon, it has a large iron core, which generates a magnetic field about 1% as strong as that of the Earth. Surface temperatures range from about −183 °C to 427 °C. The English name for the planet comes from the Romans, who named it after the Roman god Mercury. Mercury is even smaller—albeit more massive—than the largest natural satellites in the solar system, Ganymede and Titan. This planet is the fastest planet in our Solar system because its orbit around the sun last only 88 days, but its rotation around axis is very slow. Mercury is one of four terrestrial planets and is a rocky body like the Earth. Mercury's core has higher iron content than that of any other major planets in the Solar System. Something about Mercury: Semi -major axis 57 909 100 km Orbital period 87.969 1d Mean radius 4879,4 km Sidereal rotation period 58.646 day http://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merk%C3%BAr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_(planet)
