Following this auspicious beginning, a young Bird immersed himself in classical, Hungarian Gypsy, early jazz, country blues, and South Indian music to name just a few genres, while carefully honing an uncanny whistling ability. Bird graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor’s in violin and wasted no time in self-releasing his first album, The Music of Hair. He then assembled Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire, with whom he released three records, most notably: The Swimming Hour, which features standout tracks “Why?” and “Way Out West.” Bird has since gone on to record and release several studio albums, as well as three Fingerling albums, each comprised of live and/or outtake tracks that illustrate Bird’s evolutionary and experimental nature. In 2006, he made his debuts at both the Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza festivals. On March 20, 2007, Armchair Apocrypha was released to critical acclaim. The New Yorker called it “a vast, optimistic album about depressing things such as falling airplanes and empires,” Newsweek said it contained “just the right parts darkness and light,” while The New York Times exclaimed, “Mr. Bird spins existential doubts into elegant confections. In January of this year, Bird released Noble Beast: a self-produced album with 14 original songs featuring Bird on violin, vocals, whistling, and guitar. He kicked off an album tour later in the month and continues to tour throughout the year. “Bird could be the only performer who’s lit up both Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo with a combination of vocals, violin, guitar, glockenspiel and whistling... he uses centuries-old instrumentation to give depth and soul to folk rock."—Esquire "The Masters Are Dead—Long Live the Masters," November 2008 15233 Ventura Boulevard, Suite 200, Sherman Oaks, California 91403 Tel. 818-380-1918 Fax 818-380-2609 Bird Page 3 of 3
