Pablo Minoli had a dream: to play guitar for the rest of his live. That dream brought
him from Uruguay to Venezuela and then to Europe. It made him a legendary
guitar player and composer: first recognized by the metal scene, but now Pablo
has shared his skills with many artists, genres and projects including award
winning ‘Ali B op Volle Toeren’, an acoustic guitar project with The Ark and
composing for Dutch soul artist Alain Clark.
This is the biography of
PABLO MINOLI
Pablo Minoli’s amazing music story started in Uruguay and Venezuela but got boosted when
he moved to Amsterdam in 1992 with his metal band Laberinto.
Laberinto
Pablo studied guitar at the Roland Music Institute in Caracas (Venezuela) after which he
formed metal band Laberinto in 1989. In 1992 the complete band moves to Europe where
they manage to perform at local venues, surprising the Amsterdam music scene with their
revolutionary sound (subscribed as ‘Metalatino’). After an appearance on local television
their success begins: between 1995 and 2004 they release 5 albums and they tour to many
big festivals in Budapest, Spain, France, Germany, Czech Republic and more. They even go
back to South-America to perform at “Rock al Parque” in Bogota (Colombia) in front of
100.000 people and they appear in a TV special in Venezuela. Also in Europe they star at
TV- & radio specials (like Rock Palace in Germany) and get press reviews in all leading
European music-magazines.
During the Laberinto years Pablo develops into a legend to many metal fans and he even got
listed in the top 20 of the worlds’ best guitarists in a poll of a major Brazilian music
magazine. Pablo left Laberinto in 2004 to explore new options.
Post-Laberinto
A year after leaving Laberinto Pablo starts an Extreme Metal band called “D-Compose”, with
whom he tours to Italy, Poland, Germany and Czech Republic.
You might not expect a metal guitarist to be interested in Black Music, but Pablo always was
inspired by several music styles. He started working with many artists, performing as their
guitarist and/or composing new songs in the studio.
Performances
He performs at the Blue Note label Anniversary party and tours with Brainpower (Hiphop),
Big Boy Caprice (soul), Junior Tecla, Ledisi (soul/USA), Shirma Rouse (Soul), Maikal X
(reggae), Strawl and The Cousins (reggae) and Hind (pop / representative for Holland on
Eurovision Song festival 2008). When he joins The Ark (2006 - acoustic project of John van
der Veer) he travels to prestigious places like the International Guitar Festival (Bath Spa
University – England) and The Sage (New Castle, England).
Composing and recording
After recording for several soul artists, he is asked to play for songs of Alain Clark’s album
“Live it Out” (also featuring Steve Gadd and Pablo Penton) and co-writes the song “Go
There” in 2007.
In 2010 he is recruited as composer, guitarist and producer for a TV-project: ‘Ali B op Volle
Toeren’. The concept of the TV-show involves making a new interpretation of old, famous
Dutch songs. The songs get re-written by “The Sleepless” (Pablo Minoli, Pablo Penton and
Brownie Dutch): every song including Ali B and a guest rapper. They worked with: Ben
Cramer, Dennie Christian, Bonnie St.Claire, Henny Vrienten, Lenny Khur, Willeke Alberti and
Anneke Grönloh; all big names in The Netherlands. The show wins awards like “Positive
Young Media Award” and gets an honor full mention at the Silver Nipkow awards. Also a
CD/DVD has been released. Thanks to great success a second season of ABOVT is scheduled
for November 2011.
At the same time Pablo and The Sleepless help composing and producing tracks for Ali B’s
upcoming album of which 1 single has been released in July 2011 (‘Summertime’ feat
Brace). Alain Clark asks him to compose and record for talents of Alain’s new record label.
With Ron Wright (ex-drummer of George Clinton) and Steve Hartly Pablo is working on a
new project: an interesting fusion of hard core inspired P-Funk with a touch of soul.
Conclusion:
Amongst metal- and guitar fans he is a huge example, but the most important feature of
Pablo is that his great talent is not preserved for 1 genre alone: this amazing music talent
plays and makes music of any sort and he enjoys them all. And almost 30 years later, he is
still following his dream with the energy as if it was 1989.
