Director’s Update August 24, 2015 Kevin M. Still serves as the Director of Bands at North Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, North Carolina. His teaching responsibilities include conducting the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, “Band of Knights” Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Pit Orchestras. He also assists with the middle school bands at North Lincoln Middle School. The North Lincoln High School band program consists of over 160 students supported by a comprehensive parent booster organization. The band program has been praised for its contemporary approach to performances, family‐like atmosphere and comprehensive ensemble offerings. Mr. Still began his career as the Director of Bands & Choirs at West Stanly High School in Oakboro, NC, where he conducted the Concert Band, Marching Band, Vocal Ensemble and Jazz Band. During his tenure at WSHS, the band and choir grew substantially, including the band enrollment at West Stanly Middle School almost tripling. Under his baton, ensembles from West Stanly consistently earned ratings of “excellent” and “superior” at state and regional music festivals and competitions. Mr. Still holds the Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he was awarded the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship and graduated with Honors in Arts and Architecture. An accomplished composer, Mr. Still has written works for all types of ensembles, including works performed by Charlotte Symphony players and UNC Charlotte music faculty. Mr. Still currently is on the writing staff for Artimus Marching, a marching arts designing firm based in Charlotte. As a performer, Mr. Still marched trumpet with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in 2009, earning a silver medal and high brass honors. Mr. Still maintains an active performing schedule throughout the Charlotte region, and also teaches privately. Mr. Still holds professional memberships with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the National Association for Music Education, North Carolina Music Educator’s Association, and the National Band Association. Outside of music, he enjoys golfing, hiking, running and church service opportunities. He lives in Huntersville, NC, with his wife Kristen and their two cats, Clara and Gracie. Kevin Still is currently the Director of Bands at North Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, North Carolina. Prior to this appointment, he served as the band and chorus director at West Stanly High School in Oakboro. Kevin has been an active member of the marching band community for over 10 years, having worked with notable band programs in the Charlotte region such as Jay M. Robinson HS, David W. Butler HS and Myers Park HS. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and was a NC Teaching Fellow. Kevin was a member of the 2009 edition of Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle. In addition to marching band music, Kevin’s music has been performed by members of the Charlotte Symphony and UNC Charlotte music faculty. He also maintains an active performing schedule as a freelance trumpet player. He lives in Huntersville, NC with his wife Kristen and two cats, Clara and Gracie.
