Summer School Tutor Information
Dr Paul Svoboda, Brisbane
Australian guitarist Paul Svoboda is highly active as a teacher, performer and composer. His list of
compositions is extensive, and it is one of his goals to extend the performing and teaching repertoire for
the classical guitar by composing appealing pieces with a “modern touch”. Paul’s music features in the
new AMEB syllabus for Classical Guitar, and is also currently broadcast on ABC Classic FM. He is based in
Brisbane and is proud to have founded the successful classical guitar programmes at both Loreto and
Villanova Colleges, and has directed four award-winning guitar ensembles at those schools.
In recent years his advanced school groups have taken part in the West Australian International Classical
Guitar Ensembles Festival, to great acclaim. In 2007 Paul founded the Aurora Guitar Ensemble, which
now performs regularly and recorded their first CD, Every Second Tuesday, in 2011. In recent years Paul
has become fascinated with the newly emerging genre of the classical guitar ensemble, constantly
adding to its growing repertoire. Paul was honoured to be invited to prepare and conduct the inaugural
Adelaide Guitar Festival Orchestra in 2014 – a true career highlight for him.
