This artist with an unusual voice has over a dozen albums to her credit. The latest of them – How About I Be Me (And You Be You)? – is from 2012. Sinead O’Connor’s musical career blossomed in 1987 thanks to the hit Mandinka, while the multiplatinum success of the album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got (1990) with the unforgettable version of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U strengthened her position further in contemporary pop music. Years that followed saw her new albums, in which she kept experimenting with various genres, e.g. Irish folk (Sean-Nós Nua from 2002) or roots reggae (Throw Down Your Arms from 2005). She is teetering on the verge of insanity when her pragmatic sister Claire and good looking Hal, a beginner mathematician, arrive. It is Hal who finds a notebook in the house, with the solution to one of the world’s greatest mathematical problems. Who is the author? The father or the daughter? Ticket price: PLN 90 David Auburn, author of Proof, poses questions in the play, deludes the spectator, surprises, orders one to solve on their own what is almost a crime mystery, which actually represents something more important than the answer to the question “Who wrote it?”. Will it be the same this time too? ELO are seen to be one of the most creative and original groups of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Despite forty years of presence on the music scene their pieces continue to fascinate with the perfect combination of symphonic sounds and rock power. A timeless group with a unique sound. During the November concert the group’s members: Mik Kaminski, Louis Clark, Eric Troyer, Parthenon Huxley, Gordon Townsend and Glen Burtnik will play their greatest hits, including Evil Woman, Mr. Blue Sky, Do Ya, Don’t Bring Me Down, Xanadu and many more. PLATINUM PROGRAMME – AUTUMN 2013 PROPOSALS Nabucco for the composer’s 200th birthday 21 November 2013,Thursday, 7.00 p.m. Grand Theatre National Opera, Warsaw On the 200 th bir thday of Giuseppe Verdi the Grand Theatre National Opera invites to one of the master’s best known operas – Nabucco. It presents the history of wars between the legendary Babylon king Nebuchadnezzar with the Hebrews, skilfully blending political, religious and social threads. All this to the accompaniment of wonderful music. Ticket price: PLN 160 (highest category seats) The scenography in Nabucco is extremely important, for it introduces the audience to the historical context of the plot. Every detail has been fine-tuned. It cannot be otherwise if it is prepared by Andrzej KreützMajewski – a giant of the Polish opera, applauded on the world’s largest operatic stages. Hoffmann’s The Nutcracker and Mouse King, he called it “the most beautiful fairy tale”, incidentally immediately proceeding to translate it into French. This was the version that the composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marius Petipa read. This is how the famous ballet originated, with its premiere in 1892 in the Mariinsky Theatre in Petersburg immediately conquering the hearts of the spectators. Especially the juvenile ones. The current production is made by the Dutchman Toer van Schayk and the Canadian Wayne Eagling, who take the colourful world from Hoffmann’s tale with Tchaikovsky’s music to... old Warsaw. Children cannot even imagine Christmas without The Nutcracker. Neither can grown-ups. These events have already become widely acclaimed and popular with the public. We have hosted i.a. stars of the La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Mariinsky Theatre. At the upcoming 9th New Year’s Concert the Orchestra of Mazovian Music Theatre will be accompanying soloists from Broadway, led by a conductor who cooperates with them on a regular basis. The guests will sing greatest hits from the most popular musicals, including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables by Claude-Michel Schönberg. Also typically orchestral music will not be in short supply, including passages from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story Suite as well as opera and operetta classics. Heartily recommended! Note!
