IMMERSIVE AND UNFORGETTABLE ONE-OF-A-KIND EXPERIENCES AT
DOLPHIN CAY ATLANTIS
Dolphin Cay’s State-of-the-Art Rescue and Rehabilitation Facility in The Bahamas Also Provides
Guests with Hands-On Experiences
PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – Since the opening of Atlantis, Paradise Island, the resort has been home
to the world’s largest open air marine habitat, amazing guests with over 50,000 marine animals. Dolphin
Cay (pronounced “key”), the state-of-the-art interaction and education center is one of the largest and
most sophisticated animal rescue-rehabilitation facilities, designed to enlighten visitors about these
charismatic mammals in a natural lagoon setting and to create memories of a lifetime.
Dolphin Cay Atlantis is home to Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins and shares with Atlantis guests the
opportunity to meet and interact with dolphins in an unparalleled encounter that is enriching for both
guests and animals. Prior to this intimate experience, guests are guided through an informative
introduction to dolphin behavior and physiology, and learn about the importance of marine-life
conservation.
Located on the resort’s grounds, Dolphin Cay contains a 14-acre lagoon consisting of nearly seven
million gallons of natural Bahamian ocean water, three interaction coves, and seven interconnected
pools. The pools provide ample space for the caring of stranded dolphins, pregnant and nursing
mothers, and other marine mammals in need of medical procedures. Sea water is kept at a comfortable
24 degrees Celsius and flows through the habitat, continuously supplying dolphins with clean and fresh
water at all times.
Atlantis is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and
Aquariums (AMMPA) and International Marine Animal Trainers’ Association (IMATA) accredited facility.
As a member of such highly-regarded organizations, Atlantis successfully cares for and maintains one of
the world’s largest open-air and man-made marine habitats, and also educates guests on the
importance of conserving marine life and how to create the safest possible environment for all animals
in our care. Dolphin Cay has over 90 marine mammal specialists that care for and interact with dolphins
and sea lions on a daily basis, in addition to a team of experienced veterinarians who monitor the health
of all residents.
Dolphin Cay is the most-recognized marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation center in The Bahamas,
and also the first beached and stranded animal network for the country. The first residents to live at this
state-of-the-art facility were 16 of the dolphins swept to sea during Hurricane Katrina from their
previous home at the Marine Life Oceanarium in Gulfport, Mississippi. These miracle Katrina dolphins all
made a remarkable recovery and fully acclimated to their new habitat, with several even giving birth
with the help of the Atlantis marine mammal specialists. Dolphin Cay is also home to a group of sea lions
who were also displaced as a result of the hurricane.
Atlantis offers shallow-water dolphin interactions and deep-water swim programs to guests, both of
which provide immersive, hands-on experiences. The shallow-water interaction takes place in waistdeep water with one dolphin, two trainers, and a maximum of ten guests. Guests participating in the
deep-water interaction have the opportunity to swim with dolphins in the deeper, center part of the
cove for closer and more natural contact. In-water interactions last 30 minutes; the complete
educational experience lasts approximately 90 minutes.
Dolphin Cay’s Trainer For A Day is a six-hour program is available to guests 10 years and older who want
a full day of learning and experiences, including working with a laboratory technician in the Dolphin Cay
veterinary hospital. For children ages 6-10, the Junior Ultimate Trainer For A Day program is available
for a similar experience.
Guests can also participate in the Sea Lions Behind-the-Scenes and Sea Lion Interaction programs to
come face-to-face with a playful and curious sea lions. Participants in the sea lion programs will learn
the basics of animal care, including food preparation, water testing, and behavioral observation at the
world-class facility.
Following each interaction, personalized photos and videos of the guests’ dolphin experience are

Blue Project — a private, nonprofit foundation fostering the preservation and enhancement of global
marine ecosystems through scientific research, education and community outreach.
