TheatreWorks S I L I C O N V A L L E Y Time Stands Still WHO’S WHO About the Cast & Creative Team REBECCA DINES (Sarah) was last seen at TheatreWorks as Pamela, et al in The 39 Steps. Other roles for TW include Lily Garland (Twentieth Century), Alexa Vere de Vere in As Bees In Honey Drown, Liz Essendine in Present Laughter, Mrs. Kendal in The Elephant Man, and Puck in Shakespeare In Hollywood. She recently appeared for Pacific Repertory Theatre as Veronica in God of Carnage. Among her favorite roles are Ruth in The Homecoming (Aurora Theatre Company), Annie in The Real Thing (Marin Theatre Company), and Haley in the one-woman play Bad Dates (Kansas City Repertory Theatre). She has appeared for Berkeley, San Jose, and South Coast Repertory Theatres, Magic and Eureka Theatre Companies, Laguna Playhouse, and for theatres and in television in Australia and London. She has received 3 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards. SARAH MOSER (Mandy) is thrilled to make her TheatreWorks debut. Her recent credits include You, Nero at Arena Stage and at Berkeley Repertory Theatre; The Lily’s Revenge at Magic Theatre; In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play) and Hamlet at City Lights Theater Company; Almost, Maine at California Conservatory Theatre; Peaches En Regalia with Wily West Productions; Restoration Comedy and Don Juan at Stanford Summer Theater. She has also appeared in the annual Bay One-Acts Festival (BOA) in A Three Little Dumplings Adventure and Dumplings Go Bananas by Megan Cohen. Ms. Moser holds a BA from Stanford University and has trained at Studio A.C.T. and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. MARK ANDERSON PHILLIPS (James) was last seen at TheatreWorks in Sense and Sensibility (Colonel Brandon), Snow Falling on Cedars, The 39 Steps (Hannay), Opus (Dorian) and Theophilus North (Theophilus). His many TheatreWorks appearances include The Grapes of Wrath (Tom Joad), Proof (Hal), Charley’s Aunt (Jack), The Cripple of Inishmaan (Babby Bobby), and Dolly West’s Kitchen (Alec). He most recently appeared in Mark Jackson’s Salomania (Aurora Theatre Company), and in Double Indemnity (San Jose Repertory Theatre, A Contemporary Theatre). Other recent appearances include Tiny Alice (Marin Theatre Company), Rumors (Center REPertory Company), The Weir (San Jose Rep), Miss Julie (Aurora), and Abraham Lincoln’s Big Gay Dance Party (New York International Fringe Festival). His work at other theatres includes roles with Magic Theatre, SF Playhouse, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company, Word for Word, Marin Theatre Company, and American Conservatory Theater. www.markandersonphillips.com ROLF SAXON (Richard) was previously seen in TheatreWorks’ The Chosen. Originally from the Bay Area, he has been based in London where his career includes leading roles in the West End, seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company and other London and regional theatres including a number of European premieres. Television work in the UK includes leading roles in three series and film includes Mission: Impossible and Saving Private Ryan. He is George in the Broken Sword series and the US narrator for the Teletubbies. He will appear in two films later this year, US and All I Think of Is You and has just returned from appearing in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui for the Chichester Festival Theater’s 50th anniversary season in the UK. For more information, please go to: www.rolfsaxon.com DONALD MARGULIES (Playwright) received the Pulitzer Prize for Dinner with Friends (1992) and was a finalist for Sight Unseen (1992, 1991 Obie award), and Collected Stories (1997). His other plays include The Model Apartment (1995 Obie award), Brooklyn Boy, God of Vengeance, and Time Stands Still. He also received grants from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and National Endowment for the Arts. His work has been produced across the country including the Manhattan Theatre Club, Geffen Playhouse, La Jolla Playhouse, Goodman Theatre, and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Mr. Margulies serves on the council of The Dramatists Guild of America, is an alumnus of New Dramatists, and is professor of Theatre Studies and English at Yale University. He also develops many scripts for film and television and is currently adapting Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel, Middlesex, for HBO. LESLIE MARTINSON (Director) is TheatreWorks’ Associate Artist and Casting Director. For TheatreWorks, her directing credits go back over twenty years, including, most recently, the West Coast premieres of The Pitmen Painters and Superior Donuts. A graduate of Occidental College, she has been a Watson Fellow in political theatre, a member of Lincoln Center Directors’ Lab, a member of the LaMaMa International Directing Symposium and has served on Theatre Bay Area’s Theatre Services Committee since 2002. She was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship in Stage Direction from the Arts Council of Silicon Valley for artistic achievement and community impact. In addition to directing, she leads master classes and workshops and teaches in the Musical Arts department at Notre Dame de Namur University. ERIK FLATMO (Scenic Designer) recently designed TheatreWorks’ productions of The North Pool, Opus, and Radio Golf. He has designed scenery for theatre and opera companies across the country, including Yale Repertory Theatre, Asolo Repertory Theatre (Florida), and American Conservatory Theater. Locally he has also worked with Magic Theatre, California Shakespeare Theatre, Marin Theatre Company and San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program. His work in dance involves collaborations with choreographers Joe Goode, rajal Harrell, and Robert Moses. He holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama and teaches set design at Stanford University. RANDALL K. LUM (Stage Manager) makes his TheatreWorks debut with Time Stands Still. Recent credits include four seasons at Oregon Shakespeare Festival where he finished touring American Night: The Ballad of Juan José (La Jolla Playhouse and Kirk Douglas Theatre), and Equivocation (Arena Stage). Mr. Lum was the resident stage manager at South Coast Repertory for 18 seasons, stage managing over 90 productions; some of those shows include the world premieres of Wit, Intimate Apparel, Three Days of Rain, The Further Adventurers of Hedda Gabler, Blue Door, Kimberly Akimbo, and Safe In Hell. Some other companies he has worked for include American Conservatory Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Old Globe Theatre, and California Shakespeare Theatre. Other favorite productions include Restoration Comedy (California Shakespeare Theatre), Dead Man's Cell Phone and Ruined (Oregon Shakespeare Festival), and Princess Marjorie (South Coast Repertory). ANNA R. OLIVER (Costume Designer) most recently designed the costumes for The Tempest for California Shakespeare Theatre, Red for Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Anatol for Aurora Theatre Company. Her work in theatre and opera has also been seen at American Conservatory Theater, San Jose Repertory Theatre, Opera San José, San Francisco Opera, The Old Globe in San Diego, and Seattle Repertory Theatre, as well as across the country and in Great Britain. She is the recipient of numerous Bay Area Theater Critics Circle awards, a Garland award and Craig Noel awards. She holds an MFA in theatre design from Yale University. Her work will be seen this fall in San Francisco, in the Cutting Ball Theatre’s production of The Chamber Plays by August Strindberg. MICHAEL PALUMBO (Lighting Designer) has worked with TheatreWorks for more than 20 years and has designed many productions for the company including Distracted, Theophilus North, Anna in the Tropics, Vincent in Brixton, All My Sons, Southern Comforts, Brooklyn Boy, and Over the River and Through the Woods. He has also designed lighting and/ or scenery for San Jose Repertory Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, Sacramento Opera, Opera San José, SF Playhouse, San Jose Stage Company, Magic Theatre, Aurora Theatre Company, Broadway by the Bay, Diablo Theatre Company, Shotgun Players, Teatro Visión, Berkeley Playhouse, City Lights Theatre Company, Pacific Repertory Theatre, TheatreFirst, Inferno Theatre, SCT/Harbor Theatre, Palo Alto Players, and Palo Alto Children’s Theatre. GREGORY ROBINSON (Sound Designer) has produced sound designs for several TheatreWorks’ productions including The Pitmen Painters, Snow Falling on Cedars, Living Out, You Can’t Take It with You, An American Daughter, Be Aggressive, and Present Laughter. Throughout the past three decades, his sound design, sound effects, music, and recording have been featured in local, regional, and national radio and televisionadvertisements, documentaries, corporate video, and theatre. He has created and produced for AC Transit, Amazing People LLC (London), Bank of America, California Lottery, Carlos & Deborah Santana, HBO/Comic Relief, Ivory Coast Pictures (Hollywood), Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, Magic Theatre, Safeway, The United Way, Wells Fargo, and many others. VICKIE ROZELL (Dramaturg) is TheatreWorks’ resident dramaturg working on over 90 productions including as co-director/dramaturg on Doubt, Arcadia, and Wrong for Each Other and associate director/ dramaturg for Yellow Face; Caroline, or Change; M Butterfly; Into the Woods; Dolly West’s Kitchen; Shakespeare in Hollywood; Jane Eyre; Ragtime; Pacific Overtures; Side Show; and Floyd Collins among many others. She has directed Picnic, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Little Foxes, and Ladies of the Camellias (Palo Alto Players); Wit (Bus Barn Stage Company); Proof (City Lights Theatre Company); CTRL+ALT+DELETE (Pear Avenue Theatre); and The Vagina Monologues (California Theatre), taught at Ohlone and Foothill Colleges, is a member of the West Coast Director’s Lab, has BAs in English and Psychology from Stanford University, and an MFA in directing from the University of California. ROBERT KELLEY (Artistic Director) is a Bay Area native and Stanford University graduate. He founded TheatreWorks in 1970 and has been its Artistic Director ever since. He has directed over 150 TheatreWorks productions, including many world or regional premieres. He has received the Silicon Valley Arts Council’s Legacy Laureate Award, the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Paine Knickerbocker Award for life-time achievement, BATCC Awards for Outstanding Direction for his productions of Into the Woods; Pacific Overtures; Rags; Sweeney Todd; Another Midsummer Night; Sunday in the Park with George; Jane Eyre; and Caroline, or Change; Bay Area Drama-Logue Awards for his direction of Ah, Wilderness! and Once in a Lifetime; Dean Goodman Choice Awards for Violet, Ragtime, Proof, Dolly West’s Kitchen, and Harold & Maude; and Back Stage West Garland Awards for his direction of Side Show and Sunday in the Park with George. He recently directed Of Mice and Men, The Secret Garden, Sense and Sensibility, and Snow Falling on Cedars. PHIL SANTORA (Managing Director) joined TheatreWorks in 2007 after spending four years as Managing Director of Northlight Theatre outside Chicago. Prior to working at Northlight, he was Managing Director of Georgia Shakespeare Festival (GSF) in Atlanta, as well as Development Director for Great Lakes Theatre Festival in Cleveland and George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He holds an MFA in Theater Administration from the Yale School of Drama and a BA in Drama from Duke University. He serves on the Board of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre and has served on the boards of the League of Chicago Theatres, the Atlanta Coalition of Theatres, and the executive committee of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). He was named 2000’s Best Arts Administrator by Atlanta Magazine and received the Atlanta Arts and Business Council’s 1998 ABBY Award for Arts Administrator.
