Selected from the collection of the Kings Landing Historical Settlement, this exhibition will look at furniture made on the east coast of Canada, from the Pre-Loyalist Planters to the Late Victorians, from the perspective of 2013. Nominations sought for 2014 Playhouse Honours The Fredericton Playhouse is asking the public for nominations for The Playhouse Honours 2014. Since 2008, the Fredericton Playhouse board of directors has awarded The Playhouse Honours annually. The recognition honours individuals’ involvement in the performing arts in Fredericton, fostering a deeper appreciation of the value that people can make to community life through their work in music, theatre, dance, spoken word and multidisciplinary performing arts. A permanent display in the west gallery of the Playhouse recognizes the honourees. Nominations can be made by any person or organization. Underscoring the personal investment that they have made in the community, recipients must be individuals, not companies or organizations. Recipients may be a professional or amateur artist, administrator, volunteer, educator, philanthropist, advocate, organizer, etc. A selection committee (jury) comprised of members of the local arts community will review the submissions and recommend an honouree to the Fredericton Playhouse board of directors. The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 30, 2014. Past recipients include Ilkay Silk (2008), Brent Staeben (2009), Philip Sexsmith (2010), Walter Learning (2011), Mabel Doak (2012) and Bonnie Kilburn (2013). Visual Artists Wanted for the Capitol Theatre Art Gallery in 2015 The Capitol Theatre Art Gallery is seeking visual artists who would like to hold an art exhibit in 2015. Artists from the region, or elsewhere, have until May 31st, 2014 to submit their application. Selected artists will receive an artist fee of $750. The Capitol Theatre, located on Main Street in Downtown Moncton, is primarily a centre for the performing arts. However, it provides an opportunity to embrace artists whose disciplines involve the visual arts. The Capitol Theatre Art Gallery is located in the Irving Lobby of the performing arts centre, and has become an important exhibition area. High attendance to performances at the theatre ensures that exhibits receive great visibility. A Visual Arts Committee oversees the selection of the artists. The exhibits are scheduled for an approximate two-month time period, subject to other activities in the theatre. Interested artists are invited to complete and submit the exhibition submission form, with their portfolio, before May 31. The portfolio should include a short biography of the artist, including a list of previous exhibits as well as confirmed future exhibitions, a description of the proposed exhibition and a minimum of ten photographs of recent work, accompanied by a list identifying the title, medium, size and date completed.
