THE YOUNG DADS PRESENT A PERHAPS-TOO-INTIMATE EVENING OF MUSIC AND HILARITY WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY JESSE ANDREWS AND MICAH SHAPIRO VOCALS, BASS AND ALLURING DANCE JESSE ANDREWS VOCALS, PRECUSSION AND SEXY DANCE MICAH SHAPIRO BACKUP VOCALST, GUITAR TECH, YOUNG UNCLE MATT PHILLIPS PRODUCER, STAGE MANAGER, BABYSITTER CATHERINE THOMPSON THE YOUNG DADS WOULD LIKE TO THANK Emily Carmichael, Aoife Spillane-Hinks, Sedgie Ogilvy, David Mahfouda, Jeremy Carrow, Adrienne Gerken, Diana Montoya, Angela Ricci, Seth Robinson and Jackie Thompson. The Young Dads preview their Edinburgh Fringe show with a collection of comedy songs that weave together an age-old story: boy meets girl; boy loses focus and loses girl; boy isn’t entirely sure why a dead person is still working at his office; boy evades a band of musical pirates, sings about singing about being an accountant, and writes a haunting anthem with a famous rock star; boy ends up living in girl’s car, unbeknownst to her. A mysterious PowerPoint presentation accompanies and subverts the duo as they mix pristine vocal harmonies with virtuosic bass and percussion and their own brand of strangely compelling choreography. If Jeeves and Wooster had set their hijinks to pop, folk, and reggae beats; if the Beatles had composed incisive and hilarious commentaries on existential crises, the pitfalls of being a teenage girl, and the absurdities of the corporate world; if Flight of the Conchords adopted more exotic instrumentation and less exotic accents: if any of that had already happened, The Young Dads would have had less of a reason to exist. Happily—for them and for their bafflingly loyal fans— this beguiling duo heard and heeded the call for their unique brand of comedic songs. The show they deliver is as satisfyingly funny as it is absurd and musically ambitious. Jesse Andrews and Micah Shapiro have charmed New York and international audiences as The Young Dads, and not all of their fans are technically related to them. Between them, they have two decades’ experience performing in various musical styles and on dozens of instruments, including the string bass, the glockenspiel, and a Peruvian drumbox called the cajón. The duo are now expanding into the theater and television worlds, with scripts for live sets and webisodes that draw on the vast humorous potential of their near-constant bickering and twin pathological needs for attention.
