A WELCOME FROM
the PRODUCING director
Dear Friends;
The Summer Theatre is back as the Interlakes Summer Theatre with some new
plans that you should know about. Of course, you have noticed our new name.
And I think you know about our earlier evening show times.
Probably the newest news is that we have started turning the wheels on the creation of a new Not-for Profit organization. The Friends of the Summer Theatre
will now operate as a 501(c3) with the mission of raising funds from individual
donors, organizations, businesses and charitable foundations to help defray the
costs of producing live theatre.
There are staggering expenses associated with producing professional musicals.
To start, we are faced with royalty payments totaling $25,000. We also provide
live musicians and several Actor’s Equity guest stars. In our efforts to bring you
top talent from around the country, we must provide housing for 65 people over
the course of the summer.
We are proud of the work we have been bringing to the Lakes Region over the
last three years and intend to continue to bring you the best in summer theatre
entertainment!
There is an exciting way for you to participate in the official kick-off of the “Friends
of the Summer Theatre”. On Monday evening, August 8th, The Interlakes Summer Theatre will present a concert version of “Gypsy”, the musical by Jule Styne
and Steven Sondheim, originally directed by the late, great Arthur Laurents. It is
based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee and tells the story of her sister, her infamous stage mother Rose, and herself. The role of Mama Rose is a “tour de force”
which has been played by all the greats--Ethel Merman, Rosalind Russel, Angela
Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Betty Buckley, Bernadette Peters and now it’s my turn! I will
appear as Mama Rose, surrounded by this most amazing troupe of actors!
Come and Join us for this Gala event as a “Friend of the Summer Theatre.” This
historic, one time only concert is sponsored by Working Class Music on Main
Street in Meredith! Ticket price of $40.00 includes a performance and party.
This is an evening you will never forget and we want you to be a part of it! Stop
by the box office to reserve your seat and fasten your seat belt!

Dear Friends,
New Hampshire has a long tradition of outstanding professional theater.
Our state’s wonderful tradition began with traveling troupes in the 1800s, and
evolved to vaudeville productions in the early 20th century, to become a vibrant
industry that touches every corner of our state.
Theater entertains us, and enriches our lives with every performance.
New Hampshire’s theaters are part of a vibrant arts scene that is important to our
economy and our overall quality of life.
New Hampshire professional theater brings a world of experience to
our stages and has an international reputation for excellence. The people you see
onstage and those behind the scenes often have worked and performed in cities
across the U.S. and beyond, and the quality shows in every performance.
I encourage you to learn more about New Hampshire professional theater. Historic theaters are located in cities and towns across the state, with wideranging performances that will entertain and enrich audiences of all ages.
Congratulations to the New Hampshire Professional Theater
Association for the work they do in keeping us entertained, strengthening our
economy and helping make our state a wonderful place to work and live.
Sincerely,
