Zenk images freely taken from google.it Salivary disorders, Nutrition and Pediatric age Directors: Pasquale Capaccio Susanna Esposito PRESENTATION Nutrition plays an essential role in the health and development of all of human beings, particularly during the neonatal period and childhood. It is also related to correct digestion, the early phase of which is guaranteed by the salivary glands. Salivary gland disorders are frequent in adults but also appear in the first years of life, and pediatricians and otorhinolaryngologists are both very familiar with acute neonatal parotitis, recurrent parotitis of childhood, salivary stones, and infective and auto-immune sialadenitis. During the course of this scientific event, all of the manifestations of salivary gland disorders will be described in the light of the latest diagnostic and therapeutic advances, particularly the fundamental diagnostic and therapeutic role of sialoendoscopy. Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia may also be manifested by the presence of swollen salivary glands, and will be described in terms of their psycho-social aspects and possible treatments. As it is clear that an eating disorder requires the establishment of an appropriate nutritional approach and, therefore, a balanced diet capable of calibrating the efficient metabolism that is so important during childhood, we will also illustrate the nutraceutical and nutrigenomic principles underlying correct nutrition. All this and more will be proposed to congress attendees in the framework of the Universal Exposition “Expo 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, and so we look forward to seeing you all in Milan. Pasquale Capaccio and Susanna Esposito
