Davendra Mehta, MD, PhD, Appointed Director of Cardiac
Electrophysiology at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s
NEW YORK (February 24, 2014)  Davendra Mehta, MD, PhD, FRCP, FACC,
FHRS, is the new Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, one
of the seven hospital campuses of the Mount Sinai Health System.
Dr. Mehta is a world-renowned cardiac electrophysiologist who has been on the faculty
of the Division of Cardiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital since 1992, and is past
Director of its Electrophysiology Laboratory and Arrhythmia Section (2001-2010). He
will continue to serve as Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Icahn School of Medicine
at Mount Sinai.
“I am excited that Dr. Mehta is lending his expertise to lead Cardiac Electrophysiology at
the newly named Mount Sinai St. Luke’s campus for the Mount Sinai Health System,”
says Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, who is Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Icahn
School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Director of Mount Sinai Heart, and Physician-inChief at The Mount Sinai Hospital. “We thank Dr. Mehta for his more than 20 years of
steadfast service at The Mount Sinai Hospital campus and for continuing to share his
expertise now with Mount Sinai St. Luke’s patients on the West Side of Manhattan.”
In his new position, Dr. Mehta will oversee electrophysiology services at Mount Sinai St.
Luke’s including its Al-Sabah Arrhythmia Institute, a 21,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art
facility serving more than 3,000 patients each year named for His Highness Sheikh Sabah
Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait. At Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, Dr.
Mehta will work hand-in-hand with Conor Barrett, MD, the Director of the Al-Sabah
Arrhythmia Institute and his team of six electrophysiologists.

continue to deliver advanced arrhythmia clinical care to patients, performing latest heart
rhythm disorder treatments, testing advanced therapies in clinical trials, and educating
and training the next generation of EP physicians,” says Dr. Mehta, the new Director of
Cardiac Electrophysiology at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s.

Helmsley Center for Electrophysiology, who is Director of Arrhythmia Services for

each patient’s treatment options for dangerous heart rhythm issues across the Mount Sinai
Health System and around the globe.”
Dr. Mehta specializes in diagnostic electrophysiology studies, catheter ablation
procedures for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, and the implantation of
pacemakers, defibrillators, and bi-ventricular devices. He is board certified in medicine,
cardiology, and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. His current research interests include
prevention and treatment of ventricular arrhythmias in cardiac sarcoidosis. In addition,
Dr. Mehta has authored multiple peer-reviewed research publications and has lectured
widely around the world.
Dr. Mehta is a Fellow of the Royal College of London (FRCP), a Fellow of the American
College of Cardiology (FACC), and a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS). Also,
he was nominated by the Heart Rhythm Society to be part of the writing group for the
guidelines for using methadone for pain (how to prevent proarrhythmia), and also the
management of cardiac sarcoidosis. Dr. Mehta graduated with his medical degree and
completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical
Education in Chandigarh, India. He did his fellowship in Cardiology and Cardiac
Electrophysiology at St Batholomew’s and St George’s Hospitals in London and
completed his PhD at the University of London.
He has been repeatedly named by Castle Connolly, Ltd. as one of “America’s Top
Doctors” and “Top Doctors: New York Metro Area,” and also noted as one of New York
Magazine’s “Best Doctors.”
