Language Arts Curriculum Fifth Grade The Fifth Grade language arts curriculum includes the study of writing, reading, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar. Communication skills are further developed through oral and written expression. The program is spiral in nature, with skills and concepts built upon those learned from the previous year. The language arts curriculum is integrated with other subject areas and curricular themes. Students have the opportunity to develop, practice, and progress toward mastery of language arts skills throughout the curriculum. Trade books, novels, and textbooks are used to develop skills. I.
