Full-time, Tenure-track Faculty Position in Environmental Science
The College of Science, Technology and Mathematics (STM) at Alderson Broaddus University
is seeking applications for a nine-month, tenure track faculty position in Environmental Science
beginning in August 2016. The applicant will be expected to teach a variety of courses to
students earning bachelor’s degrees in environmental science. The primary instructional
responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to teach lectures and labs for introductory
environmental science, geography and geology courses. Candidates with expertise in GIS,
geology and hydrology will be given preferential consideration. Opportunities to teach other
upper level specialty courses, such as risk analysis, ecology and environmental toxicology, will
also be available to the approved candidate. The successful candidate will be expected to teach
science courses supporting our Education and Liberal Studies programs, serve as an academic
advisor for STM students, develop and coordinate internship opportunities, and advise senior
research projects required of all STM graduates. Preference will also be given to candidates who
have demonstrated the development of experiential and service-learning opportunities for their
students.
Qualifications for position: Applicants for the position should possess a minimum of a Master’s
of Science in environmental science, geology or a related field; Ph.D. preferred. The applicant
should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, possess good
communication skills, and be able to work collegially with other faculty. Rank and compensation
are commensurate with experience and qualifications, according to the ABU Faculty Handbook.
