Islam is my Religion, I am a Muslim Pt 2
I took my shahadah June 18, 2008 at the Tariq Mosque in Toronto Canada. A happy occasion for me, but my
journey was just beginning.
Allah says in the Quran, "This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and
have chosen for you Islam as your religion." Surah 5 al-Ma'idah:3
I will try to teach Islam in this letter to you but know that a person becomes a Muslim when they make the
declaration of Tawhid,
La ilaha illallah wa anna Muhammad ur RasulAllah. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, and
Muhammad is His Messenger.
After this one must adhere to the pillars of Islam:
1. Shahadah - Islamic Monotheism/Tawhid
2. Salat - Perform the 5 obligatory prayers at their prescribed times
3. Zakat - Pay charity in accordance to the Shar'iah
4. Saum - Fast during the month of Ramadan
5. Hajj - Perform the pilgrimage if one is able, once in their lifetime
There are articles of faith (Iman) that must be believed in:
1. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
2. His Angels
3. His Messengers
4. His revealed Books
5. The Day of Resurrection
6. Al Qadar, Divine Preordainment, the good and the bad
We begin our lives adhering to the Quran and Sunnah and the Shar'iah
Allah says in the Quran, "Say: "obey Allah and the Messenger." But if they turn away then Allah does not like the
disbelievers." Surah 3 Al-Imran:32
He goes on to say, "...And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain.
And fear Allah; verily, Allah is sever in punishment." Surah 59 Al-Hasr:7
Sheikh Saalih al-Fawzaan explains to us that when Allah sent Muhammad {saw}, he came with a permanent law
till the Hour is established. It will never be abrogated nor changed. It is suitable for every time and place.
I struggled from 2008 until 2010 to learn and understand and get going.
However, 2010 I began to commit myself to my religion and Allah. I began to shed myself of this life and world
and my sins and habits and begin to follow the Quran and Sunnah (The example of the Prophet {saw})
Step by step, I grew until 2012 and then I was ready to be fully committed after Ramadan. Unfortunately, I
couldn't have anticipated the backlash for my devotion to Allah from family, my wife, coworkers, and friends. I was
being accused of being extreme or fanatical or not willing to be flexible in accepting immorality and disobeying
Allah.
Allah warns us about this in the Quran, "Never will the Jews or the Christians be pleased with you until you follow
their religion. Say, "Verily, the Guidance of Allah that is the only Guidance.." Surah 2 al-Baqarah:120
As the Prophet {saw} warned in his hadith, the believer would become a stranger in this world. I had become a
stranger even to some friends who were Muslim as they were not striving to please Allah more than they wanted
to enjoy this life and please the disbelievers.
Alhamdulillah! (Praise be to Allah!) I met wonderful brothers from around the world who began to teach me and
help me grow in Islam. I began to assist in coordinating funds to brothers for supplies, travel, weapons, etc to aid
and assist brothers and sisters where they were or in the emerging Islamic State.
I spoke out in social media and my personal videos against the enemies of Islam. I organized opening a masjid,
but I will still not content that I was doing enough. How could I sit in the comforts of my home enjoying nice things
and safe while my brothers were risking their lives for our brothers and sisters!! May Allah forgive me. At this time
I began to coordinate leaving this sick and immoral land for the land of Muslims. I have professed my love for my
brothers and sisters that struggle to follow the Quran and Sunnah and fight for the sake of Allah, I also pledged
my allegiance and support to the Muslim leader on June 29, 2014 as he announced the establishment of the
Islamic State, a sovereign land for Muslims

the body of Muslims that strive to follow Quran and Sunnah and the Ahlus Sunnah wa Jama'ah, the Salafi. I make
mistakes and errors, so has my brothers and sisters but we stand on 'La Ilaha illallah"
We are not without fault but I will never oppress my brothers, hurt them, aid the enemy against them, declare
them disbelievers.
Allah says in the Quran, "We fling the Truth against the falsehood, so it destroys it, and behold, falsehood is
destroyed." Surah 21 Al-Anbiya:18
I have brothers that gave their life saving Muslims in Syria and around the world. May Allah be pleased with them
and grant them Paradise.
Imam al-Barbahaaree said: "And know that the souls of martyrs are inside the bellies of green birds moving freely
in Paradise and they retire to the lamps under the 'Arsh. And the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked ones
are in the depths of Barhut, and that is in the Sijjin, the lowest depths of Hell."
So this is a brief story about me, a boy who struggled in life and in faith to become a man who found peace and
truth in Islam. That is not what the media and the federal agencies care about nor is it very exciting, huh? You
say, Mrs. Latos, that you want to share my story and not as sensational hype. We will see. The hype and lies and
sound bites bring the ratings and website hits. Regardless, In'sha'Allah you, in the spirit of journalistic integrity will
allow people to see all the words also. It may not matter, I am the enemy and the face of evil to the average
Amerikkkan. It's ok.
