Probiotic for Upper Respiratory
and Immune Health
Support Healthy Bacteria in the Mouth for
Breath and Immune Support
If the healthy balance of oral bacteria is disrupted by stress, exposure to disease
or antibiotics, it can quickly lead to problems such as bad breath, throat and ear
infections. The microorganisms in our mouth are a first line of defense against
pathogens and are important in maintaining healthy oral bacteria. BLIS K12TM is
an advanced probiotic for the mouth and upper respiratory tract. It is a specific
strain of Streptococcus salivarius with actions to help provide a natural long-term
breath support while boosting our immune system’s natural defenses.
BLIS K12TM Streptococcus salivarius is one of the most numerous benefi-
cial bacteria found in the mouth of healthy individuals. Only a small percentage of
people have Streptococcus salivarius with BLIS K12TM activity. The BLIS K12TM
strain was originally discovered as scientists tracked the oral bacteria of a healthy
child that did not develop sore throats for several years. Scientists found that
this particular K12TM strain of Streptococcus salivarius secretes antimicrobial
molecules called BLIS (Bacteriocin-Like-Inhibitory Substances). These have
the ability to inhibit harmful bacteria such as the bacteria responsible for bad
breath, sore throats, upper respiratory tract and ear infections.
Why is BLIS K12 so unique? Most probiotic bacteria,
including Streptococcus salivarius, compete with other microorganisms for space
and nutrients in the mouth and in this way, act to maintain a healthy balance of
oral bacteria. BLIS K12TM works beyond competitive inhibition. It secretes two
anti-microbial proteins called Salivaricin A and Salivaricin B which inhibit undesirable bacteria, making it more effective at fighting off pathogens.
When BLIS K12TM enters the mouth, it attaches to cells in the mouth and
colonizes, crowding out pathogenic bacteria, stopping them adhering to the
host. The final antibacterial punch comes from the production of BLIS
molecules, Salivaricins A and B. Many potential pathogens are susceptible to
these Salivaricins, including the bacteria that cause bad breath, sore throats,
and those that cause upper respiratory tract and ear infections.

Advantages of BLIS K12TM
• Safe and effective for children
and adults
• Promotes oral health
• Helps maintain long-term breath
freshness
• Active in the mouth to support a
balance of healthy bacteria
• Proprietary strain of bacteria
with potent BLIS antibacterial
molecules: Salivaricins A and B
• Robust science with over 36 years’
research and an extensive collection
of peer reviewed publications
• Supports your natural immune
system defenses
Ear, Nose and
Throat Health
BLIS molecules produced by K12TM destroy
harmful oral bacteria such as Streptococcus
pyogenes the significant contributor to
bacterial sore throats. Studies show that
children who naturally have BLIS producing
bacteria in their mouths, like BLIS K12TM,
are less likely to acquire sore throats.

Halitosis is the term given to bad breath. Studies have shown
up to 50% of people can suffer from halitosis. There are a
number of factors that contribute to bad breath including
metabolic disorders and poor diet choices, however the main
source of bad breath is due to an imbalance of bacteria residing
in the mouth. Studies have found halitosis sufferers have lower
numbers of beneficial bacteria such as Streptococcus
salivarius. Therefore, reintroducing these bacteria addresses
the root cause of bad breath.
How does BLIS K12TM Fight Bad
Breath?
Typically, sufferer’s attempt to “mask” the odor with cosmetic
products such as mouth rinses, gums and sprays. Alternatively, various expensive and complicated treatments involve
the short-term reduction of the malodorous bacteria (as well
as good bacteria) from the mouth. However, their numbers
soon return to previous levels without structurally solving the
problem.

Pilot studies of children with recurrent tonsillitis and ear infections have
found that the children experienced reduced numbers of infections after
taking BLIS K12TM.
Using the Streptococcus salivarius K12TM probiotic increases
beneficial Streptococcus salivarius levels in the mouth as these
microbes bind to human epithelial cells restoring a balance of
beneficial non-malodorous bacteria. Studies have shown subsequent reduction in bad breath after taking K12TM daily for
14 days.
