2015 A N N U A L R E P O R T 2015 was another year of GROWTH for TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation as we served our 3000th patient. CLINICAL ACTIVITIES ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH We mark our 12th year of providing specialized rehabilitation care in the Atlanta area. In 2015, we served our 3,000th breast cancer patient, providing services that improve quality of life by reducing pain, restoring motion, regaining strength and helping patients and their families cope with the physical and emotional issues of living with and surviving breast cancer. We are very active in our continued advocacy on behalf of breast cancer survivors locally and nationally to promote rehabilitation and exercise as an integral and standard part of every breast cancer patient’s care. In 2015, TurningPoint served almost 400 new patients and provided a total of 5,500 physical therapy, massage therapy, counseling and nutrition visits. Approximately 38% of total care provided was through financial assistance, complimentary and reduced fee services, which include monthly patient education programs, weekly exercise classes, counseling, nutrition and support for patients with metastatic breast cancer. In 2015, TurningPoint’s advocacy activities included educating 140 healthcare providers about the physical and emotional side effects of treatment and the role of rehabilitation for breast cancer survivors. In November, we hosted our 3rd annual healthcare provider course on advanced concepts in breast cancer rehabilitation for physical and occupational therapists along with the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. The course received excellent evaluations and many more breast cancer survivors will be served by these rehabilitation professionals. Through media and community events, TurningPoint reached over 1.3 million people locally and nationally relating to breast cancer survivorship issues. PATIENT PERSPECTIVE “Finally, I took everyone’s suggestion and came to TurningPoint and what a positive difference TurningPoint has made in my journey! The care, courtesy, and consideration of the staff made me feel like a woman capable of recovering, as opposed to just another patient in a sterile medical environment. I met other survivors blossoming post treatment and felt like I could, too! The physical therapy increased my range of motion and reduced the swelling in my arm and hand. The entire staff provides personal attention and positive support all the way around. I am truly blessed to have found TurningPoint and now sing praises about the organization to every breast cancer patient I meet! TurningPoint continues to be one of the positive gifts of my breast cancer journey—helping me discover rehabilitation and healing post treatment! Through the generosity of TurningPoint’s donors and the financial assistance program, I have been able to receive the care I need. Thank you for all that you do to put the joy in fighting cancer and living!” C.W. Care. Compassion. Clinical Excellence.
