Membership is Free and Easy! Anyone diagnosed with cancer, their family and friends are eligible for membership at Gilda’s Club. To join: 1. Call 563-326-7504 or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment for a New Member Meeting. 2. Attend the New Member Meeting and complete a Customized Membership Plan. If you have cancer diagnosis, complete the CancerSupportSource (CSS) on site or online. 3. Join us for any support group, program or activity! New Member Meeting: One-time meeting to learn more about what Gilda’s Club has to offer, tour the clubhouse and sign up for membership. Pre-Registration: Please register for any activity you want to attend at Gilda’s Club and cancel if you change your mind. All workshop and lecture facilitators are volunteers and we would like to give them as much notice as possible in regards to those supplies needed and room set-up. If food is involved it is really important for us to know how many to expect. Some activities may be cancelled if we do not have enough people signed up, so please call ahead of time if you have not reserved a spot. When you (or your kids) are sick: Please be considerate and stay home until you feel better when you have a contagious cold or flu, as this puts those with compromised immune systems at risk. Weather: If the weather is bad please call ahead of time or check our Facebook page to see if the scheduled activity is still being held. Generally we will follow suit with the Davenport schools. Return Service Requested Support Groups We ask that you attend a New Member Meeting and speak to a Gilda’s Club staff person before attending a support group. Wellness Group: Weekly support group for adults with any type of cancer diagnosis. Members share thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Family Group: Weekly support group for family members and friends of those with any type of cancer diagnosis. Members share thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This is separate from the Wellness Group. Gynecological Cancer Group: A support group for those diagnosed with gynecological cancers. This group meets once a month. Grief Connection: An ongoing bi-monthly grief support group. Gilda’s Club Hours: Monday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Tuesday-Friday 8:00 AM - Last Scheduled Activity Saturday/Sunday—Closed Noogieland Noogieland is for children/teens affected by cancer: Kid Support: A peer support group for children ages 4-12. Grief Busters: A bi-monthly group for children who have experienced the death of a family member or friend to cancer. Noogie Nights: Supervised playtime for young children. Teen Time: A bi-monthly group for teens ages 12 to 18. Call Anita for more information or to reserve space for your child(ren). Healthy Lifestyle Activities Creative Sessions with Jacki Olson: Tap into your creativity as artist Jacki Olson guides you through your own masterpiece using different mediums. In partnership with Living Proof Exhibits. This month’s medium is pen & ink and the activity is entitled: "The world inside me and the world outside of me." Gilda’s Gardeners: Dig in the dirt and connect with nature while helping to keep our grounds beautiful. Yoga: Move with the breath while increasing your flexibility and strength; calming the mind, body, and spirit. Facilitated by Melissa Wright, RYT-200. Educational Programs Brazilian Desserts & Culture: Join volunteers Alessandra Toniazzo and Alexandre Carrard Rodrigues for a night of Brazilian culture. The couple will be teaching how to make Brigadeiro and White Brigadeiro. Understanding Social Security, SSI & SDI: Kathy Laird with the Social Security Administration will discuss Social Security, Supplemental Security Income or Medicare eligibility & enrollment. Cancer Treatment Side Effects Webinar: This free webinar is designed for people living with cancer and their loved ones. We will discuss strategies to manage treatment side effects such as fatigue, hair loss, anemia, infection and pain. Register at: http://iowacancerconsortium.wildapricot.org/event- 2008204 From Cancer to Health™: This program will teach strategies to help manage stress, ways to lessen the impact of physical symptoms of cancer, and skills to cope with common problems faced by people with cancer. Research shows that people participating in the program feel less stress, have better immunity, keep healthier diet and exercise habits and feel greater social support. Social Events Cards & Coffee: Gather to play various card games & visit over coffee. Laughs Out Loud: Join Gilda’s member, Randy Gullion for an afternoon of classic movie comedies. Red Door Readers: This is our monthly book-club. September’s discussion book is “All the Light That You Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr. October’s book is ”Murder Past Due” by Miranda James. Bunco Night: Erin will teach you how to play this popular game played with three dice.
