GENOMIC APPROACH FOR INDIVIDUALIZING ENDOMETRIAL
CANCER DIAGNOSIS, PROGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
NEFRONA - NATIONAL OBSERVATORY ON ATHEROSCLEROSIS
IN NEPHROLOGY
The NEFRONA project is a pioneering initiative to promote
research in vascular disease in patients with chronic kidney
disease (CKD) distributed throughout the Spanish territory study.
The project is focused on whole exome sequencing
study of metastatic endometrial cancer (EC), as well
as of alterations involved in radiation-resistance, and
invasion/metastasis profiling. The aim is:
R&D Field(s): Endometrial Cancer
Budget: 400.000 €
IP: Dr. Xavier Matias-Guiu
To identify specific molecular alterations of
metastatic EC for improving diagnosis.
To test pharmacological inhibitors as potential
treatments for patients with metastatic EC.
PREDICTUS - USE OF SYSTEM BIOLOGY TO PREDICT AND
DIAGNOSE TRANSITORY ISCHEMIA AND ISCHEMIC TOLERANCE
R&D Field(s): Vascular Pathology
Chronic Kidney Disease
Budget: 700.000 €
IP: Dr. Elvira Fernández
HUMAN FUNGAL PATHOGENS UNDER OXIDATIVE STRESS: ADAPTATIVE
MECHANISMS AGAINST HYPOXIA AND REACTIVE-OXIGEN SPECIES
PREDICTUS is a multidisciplinary and translational
project to assess new biomarkers to stroke
recurrence, to diagnosis of brain ischemia and
ischemic tolerance in humans.
R&D Field(s): Stroke, Transient
ischemic attacks, Brain ischemia
Budget: 300.000 €
IPs: Dr. Francesc Purroy, Dr.
Joaquim Egea
To identify transient ischemic attacks (TIA) human
biomarkers, through metabolomic and lipidomic
profiling,
To determine stroke tolerance in human patients
using neuroimaging and neurological evaluations.
To study the atherosclerotic burden of CKD in ≈3000 patients at
different stages CKD
To evaluate the usefulness of imaging techniques and emerging
biomarkers in predicting cardiovascular risk.

Invasive pathogens frequently interact with the human host in
niches low in oxigen, often associated with increased level of
reactive oxygen species and carbon dioxide.
R&D Field(s): Microbiology,
Human Pathogens
Budget: 330.000 €
IP: Dr. Enric Herrero
Pathogenomics project is focused on the determination of the
molecular mechanisms involved in fungal responses and host
interactions under oxygen stress in vitro (hypoxia and normoxia).
The main aim is to set pathogens’s sensitivity to distinct oxigen
niches for further development of therapeutic strategies against
invasive fungal diseases.
Spin-offs and Innovation models
Dietary Molecular Diagnostics, SL
DMD, SL. offers accurate therapeutic solutions based on
personal nutritional recommendations to healthcare
professionals. These recommendations are based on
merged results on individual’s molecular data:
 Genetics: the risk of suffering certain diseases
 Nutrigenomics : the impact of food in gene expression
 Biochemistry: common molecular biomarkers
 Metabolomics: the effect of food and exercise on
metabolism
Advanced Biomedical Research Center
CREBA is the result of a joint-venture between IRBLleida, a
multinational and local company and the Council of Lleida to boost a
strategic swine research center in the region of Lleida. It is expected
that the facilities will promote new science-related activities such as
specialized training in new surgical techniques as well as biomedical
research projects using swine as preclinical model. This new building
(1.200 sqm) will be fully equipped.
Detection and Treatment of Atherothrombotic Diseases
UDETMA is a pioneering organization within the
Nephrology Service in Hospital Universitari Arnau de
Vilanova de Lleida devoted to the study and the
prevention of cardiovascular disease (CD). UDETMA uses
sensitive diagnostic tools to perform non-invasive tests to
predict risk from suffering CD and offers hand-on training.
