Programmes Manager for Production
LYT is seeking a Programmes Manager with experience of production management and teaching
technical theatre with young people. The post-holder’s key responsibilities will be to:
 Facilitate participatory projects that engage young people aged 12-24 with technical theatre and
backstage arts
 Provide Production Management to LYT’s performances and events
 Manage Technical Theatre volunteers and placements
 Develop relationships with technical theatre schools and volunteer organisations
Time Scale:
March – August 2017; This post is initially advertised as a 6-month fixed term
contract, with the intention to extend the contract dependent on funding.
Hours:
28 hours per week (4 days)
Salary:
£25,000 - £26,000 pro rata (dependent on experience)
We will also consider applicants interested in negotiating a freelance contract
for this role.
Terms:
As this post involves working with/contact with young people, any offer will be
confirmed following the company’s procedures and policies with regards to
obtaining references and enhanced disclosure status.
Post-Holder Delivery Goals:

Forum Theatre Project & Schools Tour – March to April 2017.
Production Management of short schools tour by a young company (aged 16-24) of performers
and production assistants; working alongside Lead Director and Freelance Stage Manager.

Technical Theatre Bronze Arts Award Project – April to August 2017. Facilitate weekly workshop
sessions and coordinate the Bronze Arts Award for 15 participants aged 12-17. This will include 1
industry visit and setting up 2 industry panel sessions.

Production Manage LYT productions: April, June & July performances

Technical Company: Lead a team of young members to crew LYT shows. Research and develop
opportunities for company members to tour London venues (industry visits), or take part in
external workshops.

aged 3-24 who live or learn in Lewisham, with the aim that everyone who takes part will gains
increased wellbeing and life-chances. We believe that participation in theatre leads to the
development and empowerment of young people. We commit to ensuring that this opportunity is
available to all young people in Lewisham and that no-one should be excluded because of economic
or social background.
Programmes Manager for Production:
Key Responsibilities
Individually, the Programmes Manager, Production will carry out the following tasks:
Delivery of the Technical Theatre Programme:

Plan, manage and deliver participatory projects teaching technical theatre and design to young
people aged 12-24, ensuring that these projects integrate into and support LYT’s offering of drama
activities for young people. (See above for a list of projects from March to August 2017).

Run Recruiting sessions to recruit participants for the Technical Theatre projects, alongside
Programmes Manager: Participation.

Provide mentoring and support to technical theatre participants, including supporting participants
in the achievement of Arts Award Qualifications.

Preparing and distributing communications regarding the Technical Theatre programme, ensuring
that these communications meet LYT’s overall objectives.

Liaising with LYT’s partner organisations, including schools, youth services and arts organisations
to facilitate participation and the development of the programme

Reporting on outcomes and activities as required by the Artistic Director, Executive Director, and
funders.

Develop relationships with schools, colleges and universities to create placement opportunities on
the technical theatre projects and productions.

Support on recruiting and manage volunteers on the technical theatre projects.
Production Management:

Act as liaison between artistic and technical teams on LYT productions and presentations

Oversee LYT production elements including design, costume, set, lights and sound

Research, purchase and maintain technical and production materials and equipment

Produce technical, rehearsal and performance schedules

Develop relationships with potential local performance venues (including schools and colleges)

Liaise with performance venues regarding scheduling and technical elements

Maintain technical budget for shows, ensuring all spending is correctly allocated

Create master scripts and disseminate script changes to the team

Manage stage management and design team, including the recruitment and management of
production volunteers

Schedule and chair production meetings

Act as stage manager on LYT productions and events, including fitting and running lighting and
sound, as necessary.

Ensure that all LYT productions meet Health and Safety requirements

Support on collating evidence including monitoring, evaluation.
Like all those who work or volunteer for LYT, the Production Manager/Facilitator will be expected
to take a role in:

raising and maintaining the profile and status of the organisation within the local community, the
professional arts community, amongst current and potential users, and public, charitable and
business funders;

ensuring that the Company's obligations under Health and Safety legislation are fulfilled;

actively implementing all the Company's policies.
Other Tasks:
 Attend meetings with outside partners and/or networks which relate to programme brief and
report back to full team.
 Manage and mentor placements from Colleges and Universities & volunteers across the
projects, as assigned.
 To take on any other duty that may be reasonably allocated by the Artistic Director.
NB Co-Facilitators will work closely with the post holder on all projects.
All project sessions run from the Broadway Rehearsal Room Catford.
Performances will take place in Lewisham schools and the Broadway Studio Theatre.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The Programmes Manager must have:
Specialist Training & Experience:
 Relevant degree, vocational training or equivalent experience in Technical Theatre
 Evidence of training/experience across multiple technical/back stage areas, including: lighting,
sound, production management, Stage Management, design, multi media etc.
 Training as Arts Award Advisor at Bronze and Silver level
Workshop Facilitation/Teaching Experience:
 Experience of facilitating Technical Theatre Workshops or teaching technical theatre with young
people.

Strong Commitment to training the next generation of Technical Theatre Practitioners.

Ability to plan, manage and deliver creative workshops for young people.
Technical Theatre Experience

2 years experience of Production Management in a professional theatre environment.

Up to date knowledge of the industry

Experience of budget management and financial administration

Strong understanding of and training in Health and Safety, particularly as it relates to theatrical
productions










Good oral and written communication
Good working knowledge of IT particularly Word/Excel/Finance and database packages/Outlook
A willingness to work hours outside the Monday-Friday (10am-6pm) pattern when required
An interest in the social and emotional development of young people through the arts
Ability to prioritise and manage workload and practical delivery of programme of work as required
It is desirable that the Production Manager will also have;
 Experience of coordinating participatory projects
 Clean Driving License
