Director of Education
Istituto Marangoni School of Fashion Paris
Alice Peinado is a passionate anthropologist interested in the role that objects play in contemporary consumer
society. She is a founding member of the Collectif 6D organisation, which brings together designers, architects
and anthropologists to foster responsible and sustainable design approaches. She joined Istituto Marangoni in
June 2014 to work as Director of Education at the Paris School.
She studied anthropology at Columbia University in New York in the 1980s, where she obtained her B.A., M.A.
and M. Phil degrees. Back to Europe in the 1990s, she worked as a consultant for UNICEF and UNESCO, and
joined the International MBA of Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in 1997 as an Associate Professor and
Programme Coordinator. In 2003, she joined L’Ecole Parsons à Paris - Parsons Paris as Chair of the Design
Management Department. She has since published articles on the role of anthropology in design and has also
extensive experience as a consultant in design anthropology. In Fall 2013, Alice integrated the Laboratoire
d'Anthropologie Sociale of the Ecole d'Hautes Etudes in Sciences Sociales as a Doctoral Candidate in Social
Anthropology, and often collaborates with artists on projects that use ethnographic research methods as a
basis for artistic production.
