Synthetic Marijuana
Synthetic Marijuana or “fake pot” is a psychoactive designer drug derived of herbs
sprayed with synthetic chemicals that, when consumed, allegedly mimic the effects
of cannabis. “Spice” refers to a wide variety of herbal mixtures that are marketed as a
“safe and legal high”. Reality is much to the contrary.

“Not for human consumption”
For several years, Spice mixtures have been easy to
purchase in head shops and gas stations and via the
Internet. Because the chemicals used in Spice have a high
potential for abuse and no medical benefit, the Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) has designated the
five active chemicals most frequently found in Spice as
Schedule I controlled substances, making it illegal to sell,
buy, or possess them. Manufacturers of Spice products
attempt to evade these legal restrictions by substituting
different chemicals in their mixtures, while the DEA
continues to work to stay ahead of the situation.
Spice products are popular
among young people; of the
illicit drugs most used by
high-school seniors, they are
second only to marijuana.
Easy
access
and
the
misperception that Spice
products are “natural” and
therefore harmless have likely
contributed to their popularity.
Some Spice products are sold as “incense,” but they more closely resemble potpourri.
Like marijuana, Spice is abused mainly by smoking. Sometimes Spice is mixed with
marijuana or is prepared as an herbal infusion for drinking.
Spice Can Affect Your Health
Spice users experience similar effects of those
that use marijuana:
 Elevated Mood
 Altered Perception
 Over Relaxation
In some cases the effects are far worse than
marijuana such as:
 Anxiety
Extreme Paranoia
 Hallucinations
Are these drugs harmful?
 Rapid Heart Rate
 Vomiting
 Agitation
 Confusion
 Spike in Blood Pressure
 Reduce Blood Supply to Heart
During the past several years, a surge of young adults
and teens have skirted the illegality of marijuana by
purchasing and smoking instead a synthetic form of the
drug. Formerly sold in convenience stores around the
state, synthetic marijuana, or "spice", does lead to a
high, but its use comes at a sometimes fatal cost. This
past March, Chase Corbitt Burnett, a 16-year-old honor
student and soccer player from Fayette County, died
shortly after experimenting with the drug.
In response to Burnett's death, the General Assembly last
legislative session passed and Governor Nathan Deal
signed into law Senate Bill 370, a measure dedicated as
Chase’s Law. In Georgia, even possessing synthetic
marijuana is a felony. The prison sentence for
possession of the substance ranges from one to 15 years.

Marihuana Sintética
La marihuana sintética "la mota falsa" es un drogas psicotrópicas de diseño derivada de
hierbas rociadas con productos químicos sintéticos que, cuando se injiere, supuestamente
imitan los efectos del cáñamo. "Spice" se refiere a una amplia variedad de mezclas de
hierbas que se comercializan como "drogarse segura y legalmente". La realidad es todo
lo contrario.

Skunk (zorrillo)
Moon Rocks (piedras lunares)  Incense (incienso)
Popurrí
“No es para consumo humano” Durante muchos años, ha sido fácil comprar las mezclas
de Spice en tiendas de accesorios para el consumo de
drogas ilícita, gasolineras y a través del Internet. Porque
los productos químicos utilizados en el Spice tienen un
alto potencial de adicción sin beneficio médico, la
Agencia Antidrogas (DEA por sus siglas en ingles) ha
designado a los cinco químicos activos más
frecuentemente encontrados en el Spice como anexo I de
sustancias controladas, haciendo ilegal el vender, comprar
o poseerlas. Los fabricantes de productos de Spice
intentan evadir estas restricciones legales sustituyendo
diferentes productos químicos en sus mezclas, mientras
que la DEA sigue trabajando para anticiparse a la
situación.
Los productos de Spice son populares
entre la gente joven; de las drogas
ilícitas más usadas por los jóvenes que
cursan el último año de secundaria sus
productos están en segundo lugar
después de la marihuana. El acceso
fácil y la percepción errónea de que los
productos de Spice son “naturales” y
por ende son inofensivos
han
contribuido a su popularidad.
Algunos productos de Spice se venden como "incienso", pero se asemejan más al popurrí.
Como la marihuana, el Spice principalmente se fuma. A veces Spice se mezcla con
marihuana o se prepara como una infusión de hierbas para beber.
El Spice Puede Afectar Tu Salud
Los que usan Spice pueden experimentar
efectos parecidos a los de la marihuana:
 Humor alterado
 Percepción Alterada
 Relajación en exceso
En algunos casos los efectos son peores que
aquellos causados por la marihuana:
 Ansiedad
Paranoia Extrema
Alucinaciones

Durante varios de los últimos años, una oleada de
jóvenes y adolescentes han sobrepasado la ilegalidad de
la marihuana al comprar y fumar en su lugar una forma
sintética de la droga. Anteriormente se vendían en
tiendas en todo el estado, la marihuana sintética o
"spice", te droga pero su uso tiene un costo a veces
mortal. Este pasado mes de marzo, Chase Corbitt
Burnett, un estudiante de honor de 16 años y jugador de
fútbol del Condado de Fayette, murió poco después de
experimentar con la droga.
En respuesta a la muerte de Burnett, en la última sesión
legislativa de la Asamblea General se aprobó y el
gobernador Nathan Deal firmó la Ley del Senado 370,
una medida establecida como la Ley de Chase. En
Georgia, incluso poseer marihuana sintética es un
delito grave. La pena de prisión por posesión de la
variedad de la sustancia es de uno a 15 años.
