What is the active chemical in marijuana?

What are some effects of marijuana?


Why would smoking a “joint” put MORE tar in
your lungs than a cigarette?
What 3 things determine how much THC or
how strong marijuana will be?

"Spice" refers to a wide variety of
herbal mixtures that produce
experiences similar to marijuana
(cannabis) and that are marketed as
"safe," legal alternatives to that drug.


Spice users report experiences similar to those
produced by marijuana—elevated mood,
relaxation, and altered perception—and in
some cases the effects are even stronger than
those of marijuana.
The chemical composition of many products
sold as Spice is unknown, it is likely that some
varieties also contain substances that could
cause effects that the user wouldn't expect



Spice abusers who have been taken to Poison
Control Centers report symptoms that include
rapid heart rate, vomiting, agitation, confusion,
and hallucinations.
Regular users may experience withdrawal and
addiction symptoms.
One public health concern is that there may be
harmful heavy metal residues in Spice
mixtures.


Calls to poison control centers related to
synthetic marijuana have risen a whopping
229% compared to the same time last year



The term “bath salts” refers to an emerging
family of drugs containing one or more
synthetic chemicals related, an amphetaminelike stimulant found naturally
Severe intoxication and dangerous health
effects associated with use of bath salts have
made these drugs a serious and growing public
health and safety issue.

Bath salts typically take the form of a white or
brown crystalline powder and are sold in small
plastic or foil packages labeled “not for human
consumption.”


Flakka is made from a
chemical cousin of the
amphetamine-like drug
found in bath salts
Can be snorted, smoked,
injected, and swallowed
Has been linked with
serious — and sometimes
deadly — behavioral
problems: extreme
anxiety, paranoia, and
hallucinations.




Like with bath salts, people have also
reported dozens of episodes of violent
behavior in people on flakka.
At high doses, flakka may also cause the
body to reach high temperatures (bath salts
have been linked with the same symptom).
This excessive temperature can lead to
severe physical complications like kidney
damage and muscle breakdown.

Place the
following values
on your priority
board in order of
importance to
you:
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
Good grades
Good friends
Spending money
Significant other
Getting along
with parents
6) Good health
7) Going to church
8) Favorite hobby
9) Having a good time
10) Driver’s license
11) Being popular
12) Wildcard (pick
anything not already
mentioned pet, sibling
ect.)

Can anyone please share their number one and
their number 12?


I am going to ask you to take six values off
your priority list and you can NEVER get them
back.
Prioritize again with the remaining six.




Did your number one change?
Did you move anything from the bottom to the
top to make sure it got in to your top six?
What was the easiest thing to give away?
What was the hardest?



I’m not going to make you give up anything
else. I’m actually going to give you something.
Write DRUG ADDICTION on your paper in
the number seven spot.
Now take anything off the board that would be
affected by the drug addiction and leave those
that wouldn’t.


So what affects do drug addiction have on your
priorities and your lives?
Reflect under your Journal.

“First you take the drug, then the drug takes
you.”
