BIOIDENTICAL
HORMONE
REPLACEMENT
Hormones
have
a
powerful
effect
on
your
body.
They
affect
your
health,
mood,
metabolism,
and
sexual
functions.
If
your
hormones
become
unbalanced,
you
will
not
feel
the
same.
Bio‐identical
Hormones
help
restore
this
balance.
What
are
Bioidentical
hormones?


Bio‐identical
Hormones
are
derived
from
plant
sources
and
designed
to
have
the
same
molecular
structure
as
the
hormones
made
by
your
own
body.
By
contrast,
synthetic
hormones
are
different,
being
derived
from
horses.
Unlike
synthetic
hormones
which
is
often
a
one‐size‐fits‐all
dosage
regime.
Bio‐identical
Hormones
allow
for
an
individualized
approach
to
hormone
treatment.
How
does
it
work?



Initially
there
is
a
hormone
evaluation
test
("hormone
panel")
to
determine
which
hormones
are
depleted.
When
results
are
back,
a
compounding
pharmacist
prepares
a
precise
dosage
of
bio
identical
estrogens,
progesterone,
testosterone,
and/or
DHEA.
This
is
dependent
on
the
quantity
of
hormone
depletion.
Each
patient
is
then
monitored
carefully
through
regular
follow‐up
hormone
panels
to
ensure
she
gets
symptom
relief
at
the
lowest
possible
dosage.
In
the
initial
stages,
hormone
panels
are
taken
every
three
months.
Once
balance
is
restored,
one
panel
is
done
yearly.
How
do
I
take
the
hormones?
There
are
several
different
strengths
and
dosage
forms
including:
•
•
•
•
Capsules
Topical
Vaginal
Cream
Gel


The
answer
is
yes
to
both
but
that
doesn't
mean
Bio‐identical
Hormones
are
perfect.
The
great
appeal
of
Bio‐identical
Hormones
is
that
they
are
natural,
and
our
bodies
can
metabolize
them
as
it
was
designed
to
do,
minimizing
side
effects.
Synthetic
hormones
are
quite
strong
and
often
produce
intolerable
side
effects.
Furthermore,
the
Bio‐identical
Hormones
can
be
matched
individually
to
each
woman's
needs,
something
that's
unattainable
with
synthetic
hormones.
European
medical
studies
suggest
that
Bio‐identical
Hormones
are
safer
than
synthetic
versions.
However,
they
have
not
been
well
studied,
especially
for
long‐term
use.
And
in
any
case,
we
recommend
that
women
never
think
of
any
drug
as
completely
safe.
Risks,
benefits,
and
consents
can
be
discussed
with
your
physician.

What
conditions
are
Bioidentical
Hormones
used
for?
 PMS
 Vaginal
dryness
 Irregular
Menstrual
Cycles
 Hot
flashes
 Mood
fluctuation
 Night
sweats
 Post
partum
depression
 Decreased
libido
 Weight
gain
 Painful
sexual
intercourse
 Endometriosis
Are
Bioidentical
Hormones
safer
or
more
efficacious
than
synthetic
hormones?
