Leading financial
marketplace in the euro
zone
With over 800,000 direct jobs and 400,000 indirect jobs, France’s
financial industry plays a central role in the French economy.
Finance accounts for over 4% of French GDP, and is the thirdlargest sector by employment in Ile de France (Paris region).
Four French banks feature in Europe’s top 10, including two of
the top three: BNP Paribas (2nd) and Crédit Agricole (3rd).
More major industrial companies are headquartered in Paris
than in any other European city. (Paris Europlace)
A gateway to euro zone
investments
Euronext is the leading stock exchange in the euro zone,
accounting for 40% of the euro zone’s market capitalization.
As the European leader in equities and corporate bonds, the
Paris financial marketplace is also up to speed with new ways
of financing SMEs, including private equity and crowdfunding.
In 2015, Paris outpaced all other European cities for raising
seed capital.
Europe’s second home to
foreign finance
Centered on long-term and sustainable finance, the Paris
financial marketplace attracts plenty of foreign investors.
More than 500 international businesses, banks, insurers and
financial firms operate in the French capital, where they employ
nearly 126,000 people. In all, €90 billion are currently invested
by foreign investors in French financial assets. Moreover, with
more than ¥13 billion raised on Euronext Paris since 2012,
Paris has become a hub for the internationalization of the Yuan.

the private equity, with €10 billion raised by 11,500 investment
funds and invested in 1,645 companies (AFIC/Grant Thornton).
Companies supported by private equity create over 60,000 jobs
per year.
Europe’s second largest
venture capital hotspot
With nearly €2 billion raised in 2015, France remained second in
the European venture capital market by transaction numbers, after
the United Kingdom but ahead of Germany. (EY, France Venture
Capital Survey, 2015)
EnterNext: the stock
exchange for SMEs
A subsidiary of Euronext, EnterNext, specializes in SMEs.
In France, 530 SMEs are listed on EnterNext, with a combined
market capitalization of €78 billion. In 2015, French SMEs and midsize companies raised a total of €4.2 billion, and 26 new French
SMEs were listed.
Focus on technology and
innovation securities
With 320 listed tech SMEs and mid-size companies, and a
combined market capitalization of €41 billion, Euronext is the
leading technology stock exchange in continental Europe. In 2014,
France was the first country in continental Europe to adopt a legal
framework for crowdfunding (more than 100 active platforms in

Sound financial
regulations
The French Financial Market Authority (AMF) and the
French Prudential Supervisory Authority (ACPR) promote
direct relationships with stakeholders, making them very
responsive regulatory authorities. The average approval
time for certain transactions such as UCITS is under
20 days. They also have professional English-speaking
teams and a mediating system to help investors.
FinTechs at the
forefront of financial
innovation
The Finance Innovation cluster is the largest French
cluster in its field. Since it was founded in 2008, the
cluster has supported over 600 innovative companies
and approved 300 different projects. Over 750 FinTechs
were opened during the last four years in various fields,
including financing solutions, portfolio management,
financial analysis, risk management, digitization and
cyber security.
A smart regulation
think tank
The Paris financial marketplace has 41 finance research
chairs and 350 scientists specializing in financial matters.
Located in the heart of Paris, the European Institute of
Financial Regulation (EIFR) is a center for education,
debate and research focusing on financial regulation.
The institute also plays a dual role as a think tank and
educational institute for European finance.
