Product Overview POWER SUPPLIES KNIEL MAKES THE DIFFERENCE EVERYTHING TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. 2 Uncompromising quality, highly qualified engineering and sophisticated service – Kniel power supplies set standards. For your success. Founded in 1975 by Helmut Kniel, the company has been pursuing a clear concept right from the very start: specialisation. By focussing on power supplies, in conjunction with one hundred percent in-house production, the company now, as then, achieves a level of product quality that has made Kniel power supplies not only legendary but, above all, a secure and lasting investment in the future. This is a philosophy that is still valid even today. One thing more than anything else counts in a time in which electronic applications and components not only are widespread but have also become highly sensitive: uncompromising reliability of the power supply. We see ourselves as manufacturers but also as service providers. Besides developing pure standard products, we also develop customised modifications and both design and manufacture individual and highly specific solutions. Trust in the know-how and the stringent manufacturing and inspection methods of a specialist in power supplies. Kniel makes the difference. Content: low emission 6 –10 Primary switched PS 11 – 15 DC/DC-converters 16 – 18 Modules 19 – 21 Linearly regulated PS 22 – 25 Installation units 26 – 31 energy 1500/3000 32 – 40 Accessories 41 – 45 Kniel Headquarters, Karlsruhe Kniel BV, Ede/Netherlands 3 SOLUTION-ORIENTATED APPROACH. The development. No innovation without systematic engineering. Our creative and experienced development teams plan tomorrow‘s reality: innovative and customised power supplies in compliance with all relevant regulations, such as VDE, EN, IEC and UL, besides our in-company standards. The fact is: all power supplies feature the same, high quality and safety standard and meet the demand for maximum electrical and mechanical functionality. This means that Kniel‘s customers can expect something special, in future as well – and this is what makes the difference. 4 QUALITY AND EFFICIENCY. The production. Individual production and maximum efficiency are not contradictory at Kniel. This is particularly the case in view of broad product diversity and small quantities. In addition to our state-ofthe-art, automated production workflow, we bank on streamlined manual operations: always in new configurations and combinations and in perfect interplay. The focus is always on quality assurance, and this is why we aim at maximum manufacturing penetration and produce a great deal in-house: for example transformers, all mechanical parts and vacuum impregnation. This is a convincing advantage for customized modification of machinery and installations! Here as well: everything to make the difference. 5 LOW EMISSION | 13 W UP TO 120 W 19”-RACK UNITS AND MODULES The sum of all advantages in the case of linear regulators and switched-mode power supply units Sensitive systems in sensory technology, measurement technology and image processing. Systems in which problems arise due to the by-pass currents being too high. Devices in which a good decoupling between the primary and secondary side is important. 6 Nearly spikes-free! A comparison demonstrates: the output voltage of our “low-emission“ series offers the most well-balanced performance. The advantages of the individual topologies linearly regulated power supplies conventional switched power supplies No hard-switched elements, so interference emission is low Small volume Low HF coupling voltage between primary-and secondary-side Low thermal dissipation low emission Low weight High efficiency = The sum of all advantages! Everything to make the difference KNIEL guarantee Availability guarantee par excellence State-of-the-art technologies are short-lived. Product cycles are becoming shorter and shoter. This rule does not always apply because many capital goods are still used for long periods even today, in particular if they involve investments to the tune of millions. Kniel makes the difference: even many years later, we guarantee our customers that we will provide spare parts and reliable, fast servicing. We are a little proud of the fact that we were able to supply one customer with an identically designed replacement after no less than 27 years of operation! Note: nothing is more expensive than a “cheap“ power supply. If the power supply fails the second device takes over the complete supply. In order to avoid a feed back into the faulty device the outputs of the power supplies must be decoupled with diodes. The assembly takes place on Z rails in the wiring area of the 19“ rack frame. The dissipation power transformed into heat is abducted on a wide area through cooling bodies. Power-up unit The mains switching card allows complete subracks or system sections to be powered up and down (on the front panel) with minimum wiring complexity. 2. Starting inrush current limitation Many electrical loads, such as power supply units for instance, draw an increased current from the mains when powering up. If several electrical loads are powered up jointly, this starting inrush current increases. The mains switching card integrates components that limit the starting inrush current to values that allow power-up with commercially available B16A circuit-breakers. The limiting components are bypassed in continuous operation so as to prevent additional power loss or voltage drops during normal operation. 3. Auxiliary power source The mains switching card also provides 3 isolated, sustained short circuit-proof auxiliary voltages. The output voltage quality corresponds to our “low emission“ power supply units. The power supplies are being built according to EN 60950/ / IEC 950 for safety of data processing equipment, including electrical office machines, in order that the conventional regulations applicable to different fields of application are observed. Power Supplies marked with NRTL carry the Curtis-Straus mark issued by Bureau Veritas. Bureau Veritas is a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) recognized by OSHA in the USA. These units are tested according to these standards: Europa: EN 60950-1 : 2006 USA: UL 60950-1 (2nd Edition) Important Features Canada: CSA 22.2 No 60950-1-07 All output circuits are electrically isolated, both with respect to each other and with respect to the input circuit. Electrical isolation between primary and secondary circuits by adequate clearances and creepage distances. Every unit is subject to a high-voltage test to ensure that safe electrical isolation is actually provided. CB SCHEME: IEC 60950 Definition of the Ambient Conditions According to EN 60950/IEC 950 Pollution Severity II Overvoltage Category II SELV Kniel power supplies with an output voltage of max. 55Vdc keeps to the requirements of SELV circuits. SELV circuits need a surely electric isolation to the mains. Mains Tested for IT-mains. Machine safety Are you a machine manufacturer or do you convert machines? The EC Machinery Directive demands that no risk or danger be posed by machines. Since there is no such thing as zero risk in engineering, what must be achieved is an acceptable residual risk. If safety depends on control systems, they must be designed so that the probability of malfunctions is adequately low. If this is not possible, errors which occur may not lead to loss of the safety function. It is practical to use harmonised standards which were elaborated in accordance with a mandate of the European Commission and which are published in the official European Gazette (presumption of conformity) in order to comply with the requirement. The Kniel power supplies of Series Energy 1500 and 3000, in addition to Energy Installation 400 and 1200, are designed and tested so that they comply with the Standard in accordance with EN/IEC 62061 SIL 2 and EN ISO 13849-1, Performance Level (PL) d. European Standard EN 62061 is used for „Functional Safety of Safety-Related Electrical, Electronic and programmable Control Systems“. Standard EN ISO 13849-1 may be applied to SRPs/CSs (safety-related parts of controls and all types of machine, regardless of the technology and energy used (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical etc.). 50 Operating temperature range: 0 - 70°C / 0 - 50°C depending on unit series: –25°C - 70°C / –25°C - 50°C Storage temperature: Humidity: 95 % –40°C - +85°C without condensation Definition of the Safety Class Kniel primary switched power supplies are constructed according to safety class I. With this safety class, all exposed parts must be connected to the PE wire with low resistance. Each unit is tested before delivery. Degree of protection: IP 30 according to EN 60529/IEC 529, when fitted, at the front. Leakage Current The maximum permitted leakage current of permanently installed equipment is 3.5mA. The actual value is far lower than this on certain units. More Tests A fire resistance test, an overload test and a test of mechanical load capability are also conducted according to EN 60950/IEC 950. A test designated „operation not as intended and incorrect operation“ is conducted in order to allow us to assess the risks and dangers if the unit is operated not as intended.
