sion '30s, a young book salesman had an idea. In the basement of his home the
idea took shape. It was a new type of soldering iron-a spectacular "instant heat" soldering iron
that could solder through paint, oil and grease without precleaning. It cleaned as it soldered!
There were obstacles to be overcome to make a business of this new idea. Capital was
scarce in those depression days. 1400 banks failed or were seriously embarrassed. Agriculture was
characterized by unprecedented low prices, diminished incomes, increasing debts and extremely
heavy tax burdens. General business suffered a disastrous year. Despite this, the FORNEY INSTANT HEAT SOLDERING IRON was manufactured and marketed-AND was an "instant" success! In fact, 5 years after starting (1937), these irons had been sold in practically every town in
the United States.
This was the beginning of FORNEY INDUSTRIES. Tlie
inventor-salesman was Mr. J. D. Forney, who now heads the Industries' operations, which reach throughout the United States,

One of the major Forney Industries is the ARC WELDER DIVISION, which grew out of
the Soldering Iron idea. Years ago, A.re Welding was a profession and demanded long and specialized
training, making it a costly service. With the increase of machinery equipment, especially on the
farm a more economical method of repair was sought for. Forney experimentation in this field
brought forth the FORNEY ALL PURPOSE ARC WELDER. It too, became an " instant" success,
and today has the distinction of outselling all competition in its field!
Many factors combine to make FORNEY "The Top Name in Arc Welding." First, there

Model IG-751
Model I.
Model IG-751, at center of this grouping, is an Arc-Tron,
not a welder. An Arc-Tron is a high frequency arc stabilizer
used with a welder. In this model you have the controls for
inert gas, water cooling of the torch, and high frequency.
The answer to TIG welding process.
Model I. A 350 amp, AC welder of the industrial type.
Thirty-six heat stages, forced a ir cooling, and rugged construction makes this ideal for jobs r equiring higher heats.
Model '5KGW, the Generator-Welder, is the newest in the
Forney line. Its quick popularity was brought about by
its ability fo deliver 250 amps (AC) welding current. A flip
of the switch. changes it to a stand-by power plant delivering 5,000 watts of either 230 volt or 115 volt, 60 cycle AC
electricity. Powered by two-cylinder Wisconsin engine.
Model 5KGW
The Model A is a 300 amp, AC welder for medium indus trial
use. Fan cooled, 36 heat stages and rugged construction are
points of superioi-ity of this model, too.
Model F-100 is a 100 amp welder with 115v-230v input.
Completely equipped. Ideal for light welding, brazing soldering. Just the machine for the hobbyist.
Model AC is a 115 volt air compr essor. Efficient, quiet and

The simplicity and speed with which
the heat stages are selected are un usual. A Combination of l ettered
taps and the numbered taps produce s
6 heat stages as marked in the s e lection chart under "Welding" . The
amperages shown are produced by
230 volt input. When operating on
115 volts the amperages on each
heat stage are slightly reduced with
a maximum of 80 amps at the high est heat stage. Maximum on 230
volts is 100 amps.
For Brazing and Soldering, separate
selection charts make easythe proper settings for either 230 or 11 5
volt input operation.

The Welder Unit has 20 heat stages, welding range from 30
to 200 amps. maximum output 200iamps DC at 30 volts, dut y
cycle 50%. AC power 120 volts, 60 cycle, single phase,
3 500 watts . Two 120 v olt outlets, each with reset breaker'.
Constructed on wide rugged skid frame,
which prevents unit from tipping over.
Frame and case are shock-mounted from
Engine and Generator for vibration free
welding operation .
Unique frame construction houses fuel
tank in protective installation. Filler
neck on fuel tank is easily accessible.
This Model F -83 has eye bolt for lifting
the complete unit.
The Engine - Onan opposed 2 cylinder, 4 cycle, air - cooled
gasoline engine, 12. 9 H . P., twin mufflers, manual rope
starter. Single lever type governor control changes the
setting of e n gine and governor at t h e same time, for direct
weldin g or power.
Shipping Note - Engine shipped with oil, gasoline drained
from engine and tank. Mufflers packed into accessory kit.
