This chapter introduces you to its key features, and explains how you can use it to get the best out of your vinyl record collection. WELCOME TO THE R20 MM-MC AMPLIFIER If you have a precious collection of recordings on vinyl records, and your T E C H N I C A L S P E C I F I C AT I O N Gain MM: 35.5dB, 41.5dB with jumper MC: 54dB system includes a high-quality turntable, tone arm, and pick-up cartridge, the R20 MM-MC Amplifier provides the ideal interface between the low-level Output impedance 100Ω output provided by the cartridge and the line-level inputs provided by a RJAA accuracy ±0.2dB, 50Hz – 20kHz modern sound system. Signal-to-noise MM: -80dB Moving-magnet or moving-coil cartridges The R20 accepts either moving-magnet or moving-coil type cartridges, and the gain and impedance can be adjusted for the optimum match between the cartridge and preamplifier. MC: -75dB Power consumption 9W Dimensions (WxDxH) 215 x 275 x 75mm Weight 4kg An additional increase in gain can be achieved by fitting an internal jumper inside the unit, for use with a very low output moving-magnet cartridge. USING THE R20 WITH OTHER PRIMARE PRODUCTS Although the R20 is configured to match line-level inputs of any high-quality preamplifier, it is ideal for use with the Primare A20 or A30.1 Integrated Preamplifiers. 1 §1 Introduction 1 17/4/02, 3:21 pm > Introduction 2 §1 Introduction 2 17/4/02, 3:21 pm Connecting the R20 MM-MC Amplifier > This chapter explains how to connect the R20 to the other components in your system, using the connections on the back panel. POWER CONNECTION B A C K PA N E L C O N N E C T I O N S ]A ]B ]C ]D Warning: Before connecting power check that the required supply voltage, ]E indicated on the back panel, corresponds to your local AC supply. With high-output moving-coil cartridges use the MM position. Jumpers can be fitted internally to increase the gain in MM mode as described below. SWITCHING ON AND OFF To switch on • Use the switch under the left-hand edge of the front panel. We recommend that your dealer carry out this operation. 4 §2 Connecting 4 17/4/02, 3:21 pm > Index B O back panel connections ............................ 3 outputs .................................................... 3 C T connections ............................................. 3 technical specification .............................. 1 power ................................................ 3 G gain ........................................................ 4 increasing ........................................... 4 I input impedance, setting ........................... 4 inputs ...................................................... 4 M moving-coil cartridges .............................. 1 moving-magnet cartridges ........................ 1 5 §3 Index 5 17/4/02, 3:21 pm > Index 6 §3 Index 6 17/4/02, 3:21 pm
