Introduction
Welcome to the Primare R20 MM-MC Amplifier! This chapter introduces you to
its key features, and explains how you can use it to get the best out of your
vinyl record collection.
WELCOME TO THE R20 MM-MC AMPLIFIER
If you have a precious collection of recordings on vinyl records, and your

Gain
MM: 35.5dB, 41.5dB with jumper
MC: 54dB
system includes a high-quality turntable, tone arm, and pick-up cartridge, the
R20 MM-MC Amplifier provides the ideal interface between the low-level
Output impedance

output provided by the cartridge and the line-level inputs provided by a
RJAA accuracy

modern sound system.
Signal-to-noise
MM: -80dB
Moving-magnet or moving-coil cartridges
The R20 accepts either moving-magnet or moving-coil type cartridges, and the
gain and impedance can be adjusted for the optimum match between the
cartridge and preamplifier.
MC: -75dB
Power consumption
9W
Dimensions (WxDxH)
215 x 275 x 75mm
Weight
4kg
An additional increase in gain can be achieved by fitting an internal jumper
inside the unit, for use with a very low output moving-magnet cartridge.
USING THE R20 WITH OTHER PRIMARE PRODUCTS
Although the R20 is configured to match line-level inputs of any high-quality
preamplifier, it is ideal for use with the Primare A20 or A30.1 Integrated
Preamplifiers.

SETTING UP
INCREASING THE GAIN IN MM MODE
To set the input impedance
• Fit shorting links in positions ]A and ]B on the circuit board:
• Set the INPUT IMPEDANCE switch to the appropriate value; check the
]A
specification of your cartridge for the correct setting.
]B
To set the gain
• Set the switch on the back of the panel to MM or MC as appropriate.
With high-output moving-coil cartridges use the MM position.
Jumpers can be fitted internally to increase the gain in MM mode as described
below.
SWITCHING ON AND OFF
To switch on
• Use the switch under the left-hand edge of the front panel.
We recommend that your dealer carry out this operation.
