Description
The SMS-C-422 is made for applications where it is requirde to monitor analog or digital
conditions or to switch devices remotely and where an own network and/or an internet
connection is not available. It is especially designed for monitoring-tasks in the industry.
With the SMS-C-422 it is possible to check the temperature, the switch setting or the pressure of
devices and in case of failure it is able to automatically send a text message to a maximum
amount of up to 100 users. But you also can open a garage door by calling the SMSC-Control
from your mobile phone for free. Furthermore, the SMS-C-422 is able to send you a text
message if the front door of your home opens or your photovoltaics or your heating system go
into failure mode. This enables you to set up with your mobile phone in a fest and easy way your
own personal smart-home.

4.3 Connection
High Voltage
The connection of the device and all its components must be performed
in a zero potential condition!
4.3.1
Overview
The following picture exemplarily shows the connections of the device:
- 9-
Manual SMS-C 422
4.3.2
Power
The power supply is done by the + and – clamps. The device works in a voltage range between
10-30V DC (with a battery 15-30V DC). The power requirement is approximately 2 W.
High voltage
The negative clamp (–), also serves as the ground and can be touched by
the antenna pin. Here, special safety measures have to be taken, which
are regulated by the respective national standards.
Attention!!!
If there is no safety isolating transformer (or at least something
equivalent) in use, the secondary circuit (-) of the power supply or the
ground connection of the SMS-C-422 itself has to be
earthed/grounded!
Hint
In order to improve the safety, please always use a suitable Residual
Current Device (RCD)

Manual SMS-C 422
4.3.3
Digital-Input
The four digital inputs become active, when they are switched to ground. Those Inputs are
optimized for the optional battery operation and are able to run with a maximum of 10V DC.
Risk of damage
The digital inputs could get destroyed when the voltage is higher than
10 V!
4.3.4
Analog-Input
The SMS-C 422 is able to gauge standard signals from 0-10V to 0-20mA and resistance of up to
50kOhm. The signals/sensors are implemented in two-wire technology and related to ground.
The measuring clamps are identifiable by the marking I.
- 11-
Manual SMS-C 422
4.3.4.1 Current Measurement
The SMS-C 422 is able to measure standard electric currents with an apparent ohmic resistance
of 100 Ohm.
Risk of damage
The analog inputs could get destroyed, when the voltage is higher than
5V at the measuring terminal I.
- 12-
Manual SMS-C 422
4.3.4.2 Voltage Measurement
The SMS-C 422 is able to measure standard voltages of 0 to 10V with an internal apparent
resistance of 100kOhm.
Risk of damage
The analog inputs could get destroyed, when the voltage is higher than
15V at the measuring terminal U.
- 13-
Manual SMS-C 422
4.3.4.3 Resistance Measurement
The SMS-422-C is able to measure impedances of 0-50kOhm (NTC, Potentiometer…).The
measurement current is limited to 1mA in order to avoid an uncontrolled self-heating of the
sensors.
Risk of damage
The analog inputs could get destroyed when the voltage is higher than
5V at the measuring terminal for the resistance R.
- 14-
Manual SMS-C 422
4.3.5
BUS
The SMS-C has a RS485 interface, which serves as extension.
Risk of damage
The bus could get destroyed, when the voltage is higher than 5V at the
clamps A or B are applied.
4.3.6
Relay-Output
The SMS-C 422 has two relay contacts which are implemented as changeover contacts. These
contacts are able to switch 10A in category AC1/DC1.
Hint
The contacts are not meant for the direct and steady switching of high
loads (heater blower with an appropriate safety shutdown). Please use a
suitable relay, which you control by the contacts.
- 15-
Manual SMS-C 422
4.3.7
USB
The device is connected to the PC by the USB Port.
4.3.8
Antenna connection
The external antenna connection allows the connection to a RP-SMS antenna.
