NEWS RELEASE
Introducing the new Model 3541 Resistance HiTESTER
Wide Range of Measurements from 0.1µ-Ohm to 110 M-Ohm
HIOKI has just released a new advanced resistance meter, Model 3541 Resistance HiTESTER, as a successor to the
popular Model 3227 m-Ohm HiTESTER, while widening the range to include high resistance levels.
Wide range of measurements at high speed
Model 3541 is a resistance tester that covers a wide range of measurements from 0.1µ-Ohm (20 m-Ohm range) to
110.000 M-Ohm (100M-Ohm range), which allows measurement from low to high resistance levels using the same
instrument. Four sampling speeds are available for selection: SLOW2, SLOW1, MEDIUM, and FAST. High-speed
measurement using the fastest sampling speed of 0.6 ms (about 1670 times/second) is also realized in this new
advanced instrument. In addition to a comparator for determining pass/fail and a BIN function for classifying
measurements into ranks, Model 3541comes standard with EXT I/O, GP-IB, and RS-232C interfaces to allow easy
construction of high-speed automatic lines.
Stable measurement with high precision
The basic precision is already high at 70 ppm (0.007%). Model 3541 provides a self-calibration function to
automatically correct offset voltage and gain drift, and the offset voltage compensation function to reduce the impact of
thermo electromotive force, thus enabling stable measurement with high precision. Furthermore, the average function
can find the mean of measurements and stabilize the displayed value. Because the instrument incorporates the fourterminal measurement method, influence by the resistance of measurement leads and contact resistance is at an
absolute minimum.
Two types of temperature correction functions
Model 3541 comes with temperature correction functions to convert a resistance value that vary according to the
ambient temperature, to the resistance value of any temperature, and then display the value. The temperature
coefficient can be set as desired, and correction using the Pt sensor or the thermometer that comes with analog output is
possible. Also, Model 3541 can convert measured resistance value to temperature and then display the temperature
change. Additional functions are low-power measurement, measurement fault detection, and statistical calculation
functions. Model 9670 (option) can be used to print measurement values and calculation results.
Product Overview
The new Model 3541, successor to the existing Model 3227 that offers low resistance measurements, is now
available. With Model 3541, the smallest resolution has been improved by 100 times to 0.1µ-Ohm, and the
measurement range been largely expanded to up to 110.000 M-Ohm. Also, the sampling speed has been significantly
increased from 90 times/second to 1670 times/second, and the basic precision has also been raised by about 10 times.
Furthermore, Model 3541 now comes with a self-calibration function, offset voltage compensation function, and

measurement fault detection function, making stable measurement at high speed and high precision possible.
Major Features
Wide measurement range - measurements from 0.1µW (20 m-Ohm range) to 110.000 M-Ohm (100M-Ohm range)
can be performed using the same instrument.
High-speed, high-precision measurement - basic precision is high at 70 ppm (0.007%), enabling high-speed
measurement at 0.6 ms (about 1670 times/second)
Comparator - compare a measurement value with the pre-set upper and lower values to determine where the
measurement value falls within the range; the result is then displayed and output
BIN function - measured objects can be classified into a maximum of 10 ranks (BIN0 to BIN9), according to a pre-set
range; results are displayed and output.
Store up to 30 sets of measurement conditions - including settings for comparator and BIN measurements, up to 30
sets of measurement conditions can be stored and recalled by just selecting a setting number, so setting conditions can
be changed quickly. Settings can also be accessed by remote control.
Two types of temperature correction functions - convert and display resistance values that vary according to the
ambient temperature, to the resistance value of any temperature. Use with HIOKI Model 9451 Temperature Probe (Pt
sensor) or standard thermometers that come with analog output (infrared thermometer)
Convenient Temperature Conversion Function for Motor Coil Verification - Temperature increase is obtained and
displayed by converting resistance measurements and ambient temperature - especially useful for verifying motor
windings or coils, where the maximum temperature increase needs to be determined when current is applied
Self-Calibration - Consistent accuracy is maintained by automatic correction of internal circuit offset voltage and gain
drift. Self-calibration is applied at every measurement using SLOW1/SLOW2 sampling, and every 30 minutes with
FAST/MEDIUM sampling. Self-calibration is also performed at power on, and when measurement conditions are
changed.
Offset Voltage Compensation - Thermo electromotive force occurs at the contact point of different metals. This force
affects measurements, and if large enough, it can result in measurement errors. The offset voltage compensation
function minimizes the effect of thermo electromotive force to preserve measurement accuracy.
Measurement Fault Detection - Integrity of source and sensor leads and the constant-current supply are continually
monitored to ensure measurements with high confidence. When a measurement fault is detected it is indicated on the
instrument, and ERR is output from the EXT I/O interface.
Multipolar Connector - A sealed shielded, low-thermo electromotive-force multipolar connector (INPUT B) is
provided. The excellent noise immunity of this input makes it ideal for high-speed measurements of large resistances,
as well as low power measurements.
Standard EXT I/O, GP-IB, RS-232C interfaces - externally control measurement start and measurement conditions.
Also, the judgment results, BIN, and BCD data can be output externally to facilitate automatic factory line
construction.
Statistical Calculation Functions - To observe process conditions, the mean (x), maximum (Max), minimum (Min)
overall standard deviation (s), standard deviation of sample (s) and process productivity index (Cp: dispersion, CpK:
bias) can be calculated using up to the maximum of 30,000 measurement values.
Averaging - find the average of the measurements and stabilize the displayed value; count can be set from 2 to 100
Data Printing - Use the optional Model 9670 Printer to print measurement values, and those including judgment
results and statistical calculation results.
