CableServ CHAS®
Headend Amplifier System
Product Description
CableServ’s CHAS® Headend Amplifier System has
been designed with the flexibility, configurability and
optimum density needed for a wide variety of applications in today’s expanding CATV Headend. The
modular systems approach enables Headend Managers to mix and match power amplifier modules of
different bandwidths and gains in a common rack
mounted chassis.
Hybrid equipped amplifier modules are constructed
of solid aluminum extrusion specially engineered to
provide high shielding, compactness, ease of installation and maintenance, and maximum heat dissipation
without the need of cooling fans. The unique heat
radiator design provides 18 square inches per Watt
of dissipation ensuring that the amplifier circuitry
remains reliably cooled even in a stacked rack
configuration.
Headend Power Amplifier Applications
The amplifier chassis holds eight modules of any
combination of Amplifier, Power Module or accessory module. The chassis mounts into standard 19”
racking occupying only 3 Rack Units (5.25”), one of
the most space efficient systems on the market
today.
Automatic power source redundancy is incorporated
in the chassis design which offers a variety of powering options including -48 VDC (30-85VDC) and 85264 VAC 50/60Hz. An optional accessory +24 VDC
Auxiliary Input Panel enables the use of backup
power.
EAS
The CableServ CHAS® A/B SWX RF Redundant
Transfer Switch is an available accessory for automatic RF power redundancy between two CHAS®
amplifier modules or any two RF sources.
CHAS® Amplifiers are available in bandwidths from
5 MHz through 862 MHz ensuring future network
configuration flexibility. Hybrid technologies include
Push-Pull, Power Double and GaAs, single and dual
stage, in a variety of gains.

Product Specifications
Product specifications are available for the following models which are produced in Power Doubled (PHD), PushPull (PP) and Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) technologies. Models are single (S) or dual (D) stage hybrid with specified
bandwidth, technology and gain (dB) including 0 dB Isolation (I).
Powering Options
Amplifiers may be powered from chassis mounted Power Modules or from a separate master supply. Each
chassis will accept multiple (redundant) Power Modules which are available in the following voltage input ranges:
85 - 264VAC for North American and European Mains Operation
-48VDC for TELCO operation
When any two or more power sources are connected or installed in a chassis, they automatically operate in a
redundant mode. Diode switching ensures zero transfer time. The optional CHAS +24 VDC Auxiliary Input
Panel enables the use of backup power.
