Implementation / Funktion
multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E is an affordable network measuring device for flush mounting for the
measurement of all important values in three-phase networks.
The multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E micro processor records mains voltage and current consumption of
the measuring point for all three phases - via analog/digital transformer inputs - and calculates the relation of
active power, reactive power and apparent power in the three-phase network.
Furthermore, multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E measures the harmonic oscillation of the 3rd / 5th / 7th /
9th / 11th / 13th / 15th / 17th and 19th network harmonics of the voltage andd calculates their partial oscillation
as well as the total distortion factor of the voltage. The measuring voltage inputs of the device measure directly,
i. e. they are not separated galvanically by a voltage transformer! Current, however, is measured by means of
three input transformers. This ensures conductive decoupling of the current inputs of the multimess 1F1440-LED-NC-US0E from the network. Therefore, external current transformers can be connected to the ground
at any time.
The device has a volatile extreme value memory which saves - similar to a maximum indicator function - both
a minimum and a maximum value for each measured value.
The programming parameters are saved in a permanent memory, thus the device is ready for operation at any
time, in particular after lengthy power failures.

Terminology
Following you will find brief explanations for the terminology used in this manual.
Actual value:
By definition, an actual value is the square average value of an alternating or
pulsating quantity. multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E exclusively calculates
with actual values of pure alternating quantities (RMS)
Instantaneous effective
value:
The value determined by multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E during its
measuring intervals.
Average value:
The arithmetic average of the actual values over 15 minutes.
Measuring interval:
During a measuring interval the electric values „Voltage” or „Current” of one
phase are measured. The resulting measuring spots are available for further
calculations. This interval is mainly determined by the A/D conversion.
Measuring cycle:
The measuring cycle is the time the device needs for measuring all possible values for all three phases.
Harmonic oscillation
analysis:
Splitting a signal into its spectral components. The HOA results in the amplitude
spectrum.
Fourier transformation:
Calculation method for the amplitude spectrum.
Distortion faktor:
The distortion factor is the ratio of actual value of the (3rd, 5th, 7th, to 19th) harmonic wave to the actual value of the overall alternating quantity.
Network harmonics:
Network harmonics are integral multiples of the mains frequency (150Hz = 3rd
network harmonics).
Partial oscillation:
see Network harmonics

connection:
Energiy flux direction:
When mounting the transformers, pay attention to the current flow and
energy flux direction. If the current transformers are inserted the wrong
way, the measured values will be negative. In this case, interchange the
connections of terminal k and l of the transformers concerned.
•
Assigning measuring voltage input/current transformer input:
The current transformer on terminal 17/18 (k1/l1) must be arranged in
the phase where the measuring voltage for terminal 13 (L1) is
measured. The same applies to the other transformer and measuring
voltage connections.
Ö The phase sequence can be checked with the multimess
1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E as follows:
- Switch to the main menu „I”.
- Connect the current transformers to the corresponding wires.
- The device will display only positive currents when connection and
energy flux direction are correct. None of the three displays must
flash!
- If the connection is not correct, either all displayed currents are negative or a display, L1, L2 or L3, flashes. Interchange the connections
until the display shows correct values.
Caution
Before any interchanging the transformers must be shorted out!

Setting operating parameters
As all calculated parameters - as for example all power values - derive from voltage and current, their calculated
value depends on the settings of the current transformer ratio and the measuring reference voltage.
5.2.1
UPH-PH - Measuring reference voltage/Rated network voltage
X
UPH-PH - 1. submenu
The measuring reference voltage equals the rated voltage of the local
supply network to which the device should be connected. This is usually
400 V for the low voltage three-phase current network or e. g. 20 kV for medium voltage measurement.
multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E is equipped with a switch-selectable
measuring range allowing measurement of various networks.
The first measuring range goes from 5V...100V...120V AC and is therefore
suitable for e. g. measurement of voltage transformers x/100V for 20kV networks.
The second measuring range goes from 20V...500V...600V AC and therefore allows for direct implementation on 400v or 500v low voltage networks.

The current transformer ratio that can be set in the menu "I" serves for
measuring current correction. The current transformer integrated in the unit
will transform the physically existing primary current into a smaller measuring current corresponding to the transformer ratio. This current will then flow
through the multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E.
By specifying the transformer primary current (e.g. 5000A) and the transformer secondary current (1A or 5A), the multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E
will determine the instantaneous primary current and display it.
The precision of the whole measurement mainly depends on the current and
voltage transformers implemented. Usually, standard transformers for industrial applications are used for operating our device for network monitoring. These are usually of class 2 which is more than sufficient for standard
flush mounted instruments. If higher precision is required, use a higher quality current transformer.

1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E.
Enter 5000A in display L1 and 1A in display L2.
It is assumed in the example that the device is in its original state before programming, i. e. that the primary
current is set to 0005A and the secondary also to 5A.

5.2.3
Freq. - Frequency determination
multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E adjusts its sampling rate in order to determine all measured values
correctly.
In most cases the standard setting „Auto” can be used, i. e. multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E automatically adjusts its sampling rate to the network properties. If the voltage signal is highly distorted, it may be the
case that multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E cannot determine the frequency to the required precision.
Such signal distortions are caused e. g. by consumers performing a generalized phase control. In this case,
the automatic frequency determination can be disabled and the sampling rate set to the given network frequency.

The measured values for power differ, compared with the power supplier measurement.
Check k and l of the current measurement as well as the correctness of the phases of the transformers,
adjust, if required.
See chapter „I / IN - Current transformer ratio”
An LED of 1 flashes.
You are in a submenu. A minimum or maximum value is shown at the moment.
Err U_OL or I_OL
U_OL:
Voltage input of the measuring amplifier overloaded.
Switch off measuring voltage and check programmed transformer ratio. In case of direct
measurement, the programmed value must be identical with the mains voltage.
Note: The device chooses the measuring range depending on the programmed secondary
voltage. multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E works in the measuring range 1 if the
programmed value of the secondary voltage does not exceed 110V. If it does, multimess
1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E will work in the measuring range 2.
I_OL:
Current input of the measuring amplifier overloaded
Adjust programming and select bigger measuring range. Other than that, switch off
measuring current and check transformer ratio.
Note: The device chooses the measuring range depending on the programmed secondary
current. I.e., either measuring range 1 at 1A or measuring range 2 at 5A.
FPAR / FSYS
FPAR:
If this text appears in the display, a parameter error occurred. Reset the device. Note! Take
notes of all programmed parameters as they will have their default settings after the reset.
Subsequently to the reset, multimess 1F144-0-LED-NC-US0E must be programmed
