Salvia apiana, WHITE SAGE he largest grower of California native plants in the state, Tree of Life Nursery has been located on the historic Rancho Mission Viejo in San Juan Capistrano for over 20 years. Largely a wholesale nursery, the Roundhouse Plant Store is open to the public Fridays year-round and Saturdays in fall and spring. For those interested in learning more, we offer a large selection of books on the California region regarding landscaping and horticulture, natural history, conservation, and more. The nursery’s catalog, “Plants of El Camino Real,” is a beautifully arranged collection of information about the plants we grow, with helpful hints for landscapers and gardeners looking for the right plant for the right place. Come experience Tree of Life for yourself! T Salvia = healing, wellness apiana = attractive to bees Traditional Uses: food/spice-stem tops and seeds eaten, leaves used for flavoring drug- dermatalogical aid, cold remedy, deoderant, blood tonic, eye cleanser Plant Profiles hite sage is an aromatic, evergreen subshrub with thick, silver leaves W that was used by native Americans for many purposes. Its tall, upright flowering stalks bear small white flowers and make it a dramatic accent, background or slope plant. Flowering from mid-spring through early summer, white sage is a common member of the coastal sage scrub and chaparral plant communities of southern California. Its growth habit ranges from 3 to 5 feet tall, spreading to 5 feet in full sun to part shade and well-drained soil. In the California garden, natives from similar plant communities grow best with white sage, and it looks beautiful in combination with Artemisia californica, Baccharis pilularis, Malacothamnus fasciculatum, Opuntia littoralis, Rhus integrifolia, Salvia leucophylla, and Yucca whipplei. visit www.treeoflifenursery.com © 2001 Tree of Life Nursery
