Liriope Big Blue liriope muscari ‘big blue’ Liriope ‘Big Blue’ is exceptional as a container plant, lush border or pathway edging, in mass plantings and under large trees. This hard-working shrub grows well in hard to grow places such as banks and slopes, driveways or filling in gaps between shrubs. It is a slow growing evergreen that grows in a clump forming habit. It has dark green, arching leaves with a linear, strap like appearance. Late summer through early autumn, small showy blue flowers appear on elevated spikes followed by clusters of black berries. While it is grass-like in appearance and habit, it is not a grass at all. In fact, it is a member of the lily family. This liriope variety prefers moist, loose soil that is fertilized and well drained and can tolerate dry soil conditions once established. It is heat tolerant, drought tolerant and salt spray tolerant. Once established it requires very little maintenance. A similar cultivar is the Emerald Goddess - which displays the same aesthetic and growth characteristics. However, in contrast to the Emerald Goddess, the Big Blue Liriope tends to lay flatter in the colder months. It will, however, perk up as soon as the weather warms up. 1g Liriope ‘Big Blue’ Liriope ‘Big Blue’ Leaves Liriope ‘Big Blue’ Flowers Liriope Big Blue liriope muscari ‘big blue’ Native Origin: Eastern Asia, China, and Japan Common Names: Border Grass; Lilyturf Description: Hardy Range: 5-9 Mature Height: 1-2’ Mature Spread: 1-2’ Growth Rate: Moderate Growth Habit: Clumping Ornamental Characteristics: Liriope ‘Big Blue’ has narrow, arching dark-green leaves growing up to 24” tall.
