Soft-looking long needles. Native. Norway Spruce, Picea abies (8"-10"): Dense, dark, short needles. Branches droop gracefully as tree matures. White Spruce, Picea glauca (6"-8"): Stiff, light bluish-green needles. Hardy. Can endure heat and drought better than others. Blue Spruce, Picea pungens (6"-8"): Stiff, silvery-blue to green needles. Emerald Green Pyramidal Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald Green' (3"-6"): Pyramidal compact growth. Good barrier.
