DESCRIPTION
Quince are dense shrubs with a
thick network of spiny branches
and glossy dark green leaves.
Flowers are borne in early spring
just as the leaves are unfolding.
The blooming branches are quite
showy and are excellent for
cutting or winter forcing. Flowers
are followed by large fruit
(quince) which may be used to
make preserves and jellies.
‘Texas Scarlet’ has red flowers
and a low, spreading habit
Quince is adaptable to a wide
range of soil conditions, and will
flower best in full sun. The dense
habit and spiny branches of this
shrub make it perfect for barrier
plantings and small hedges. A
nice flower effect is achieved
when planted in groups.
