Temperate Woodland/ Shrubland (Chaparral) A presentation brought to you by: Trace Fredricks Lauren Lugliani Evelyn Eidsith Climate & Location: ● ● ● ● ● Average temperature: Summer: around 80°, Winter: around 30℉ Average precipitation: up to 10 inches per year Hot and dry in the summer, cool and moist in the winter Commonly Located around Parts of North America, South Africa, Mediterranean regions, and Australia Located around 30°and 40° of the north and south latitude Types of Life: Animal Life: ● Coyotes ● Goats ● Rabbits ● Hawks ● Songbirds ● Snakes ● Amphibians Plant Life: ● Aromatic herbs, such as: thyme, rosemary, sage ● Shrubs and Grasses grow in great amounts ● Trees are short with broad leaves. (Oak trees are a good example) Adaptations: ● Have to be able to survive the different seasons ● Land animals lack dense vegetation to take shelter in, oftentimes are forced to burrow ● The dry climate of this biome forces plants to conserve water, and be able to go without large quantities of water ● Plants also must recover from fires quickly, as wildfires run rampant in this biome. Human Impact: ● ● ● ● Growing usage of shrublands for commercial crop farming has caused destruction of the ecosystems in those areas Expanding human population has caused encroaching onto shrubland and woodland habitats Introduction of invasive species causes ecosystems to become unstable Humans benefit these environments by controlling wildfires
