After a busy season, many thanks go out to
our customers for such a successful year.
We enjoyed meeting some of you at various
garden shows and sharing gardening stories
with you. We always love to hear from you,
either in person, mail, e-mail or Facebook.
Also, we received some beautiful photos
from customers across the county. Some of
which we posted on our Facebook Page. Be
sure to have a look.
This year was a banner year for us in our
Fundraising endevours. It is very exciting for
us to be helping schools, as well as other
organizations and clubs raise money for
their projects. You can see the details of our
program on our website under - Fundraising
Custom packaging is also on the rise. We
did several different custom packages over
the year. We have added some of these to
our website under - Seed Favours for Special
Events. Be sure to have a look, some are
very eye catching.
You as customers are great at asking for
new varieties. We listen and try to find and
bring in your requests. This year you will
see we have added Angel’s Trumpet, Dusty
Miller, and Annual Burning Bush to name
just a few. These are noted on our website
bulletin board as well as marked in this
catalogue.
As always we welcome your thoughts,
comments and pictures and invite you to

SYMBOLS YOU WILL SEE
Annuals are plants which complete their
life cycle, flowering and going to seed in
their 1st year. They have the longest
bloom season.
Attractive to hummingbirds
Biennials grow strong plants in their 1st
season which bloom in their 2nd season
and self-seed, then die providing their own
replacements for the next year. Selfperpetuating.
Good cutting flower
Perennials’ leaves die back in winter and
renew growth each spring. Some bloom 1st
yr. from seed and others start in their 2nd yr.
They often live for decades. Bloom time is
generally shorter.

Although we are based in Ontario, our
seeds go to many countries and so we have
chosen varieties which will thrive in a wide
diversity of climates. Annuals generally do
not require zoning but rather have cultural
requirements, which you will see with the
listings. Perennials will have their zones
indicated as a guide. We welcome any input

disappearing at an alarming rate due to lack
of food supply because of habitat destruction.
Our butterfly friendly varieties are designated
by a butterfly symbol. Please take note of this
when ordering your seeds.
There are so many other winged and feathered creatures that we can invite into our
gardens, giving us the pleasure of their
company and giving them the food for
their survival. Please let us know of your

Equally at home as a houseplant or in the middle or
back of the border, this popular Victorian plant is not
seen as often as it should be. Papery, bell-shaped 58cm yellow, red, orange or white flowers hang along
the stems that hold maple-like leaves. Growing
100cm and blooming spring to autumn. This beauty
can be moved inside for winter and trained as a standard houseplant. Start indoors in peat pots. Cover
seed lightly Germ. @ 18C. Note: Seed is slow to germinate.
Ammi
A tall naturalistic annual with tall stiff stems topped
with 15 cm wide flower heads smothered with tiny
white flowers. Growing to 100 cm tall, they are at
home in a wildflower garden or informal planting.

Although in fact a perennial, ‘Indian Spring' has
been grown as an annual since the 1930s. A good
vertical accent in any garden sporting large 12 cm

The essence of Victoriana with its pendulous, chenille-like maroon-coloured ropes up to 50 cm in
length. Very dramatic. Grown in Britain since the late

The masses of bright gentian blue flowers close up
when rain is threatening; hence the name. A prostrate hardy annual well suited to rock gardens or

This delicate looking cottage garden favourite is
sturdier than it looks. Deep pink flowers will bloom

BLUE-EYED AFRICAN DAISY
Arctotis grandis
These heat loving plants thrive in sandy, well
drained soil. The 10 cm silvery white, daisy-like
blooms with blue disk florets are borne on 50 cm
stalks from mid-summer to fall. the tops of the 12
cm lobed leaves are deep green on the top and silvery green on the bottom creating an interesting
contrast when stirred in the breeze. Does best when
direct seeded.

SWAN RIVER DAISY
Brachycome iberidifolia
Native to Australia, these easy to grow delightful
airy plants bear masses of dainty daisylike flowers
among deeply cut, grey-green, fern-line foliage. The
4 cm flowers range from purple-blues to whites and
pinks with black or yellow eyes. During the very hot
days of summer, blooming will stop but resume in
cooler late summer and fall days. Grows to 30 to 40
cm in height.

Bidens aurea
An abundance of golden yellow flowers and soft
lush ferny folliage made this a ‘must have’ in your
border plantings or containers. These easy to grow
annuals will bloom from early summer to frost. They

Calendula officinalis
Dress them up or down, calendulas are one of the
easiest, hardiest players in the garden. Frost and

Dating back to the mid-1800s ‘the king’ is said to
be the oldest strain of double calendula. These deep
orange, vigorously growing heirlooms have survived

Cerinthe major ‘purpurescens’
Honeywort is destined to become very popular as a

unusual but very pretty addition to your container
plantings. Soak seeds overnight. Start indoors 6

Brassica
Starting ornamental kale in the early spring and
nurturing them throughout the summer will reward
you with a brilliant folliage display in the fall when
the frost has but the rest of the garden to bed. The
frilly leaves range from creamy yellows to purples

being touched by frost.

Like most asters, this variety makes a great cut
flower and comes in a wide array of colours. The
quilled flower petals are incurved, twisted and reminiscent of a tiger’s paw. The 10 cm flower heads are

Kochia is useful as a hedging plant or as a specimen. The feathery foliage grows in a globe shape
60 to90cm. The leaves are wonderful for floral
arrangements and the whole bush turns a flaming
purple red in the fall. It is drought tolerant and will
thrive in ordinary well drained soil. Sow 6 weeks
before last frost. Germinate @ 18C. Do not cover
seed. OR direct seed after frost danger. Annual.

Callistuphus chinensis
The 10 cm multicoloured pompom flowers are held
on strong, upright stems and are on of the earliest
blooming asters. Reaching a height of 70cm this
plant will tolerate hot, dry conditions. They have a
strong disease resistance and make an excellent cut
flower. Germinate 6-8 wks before last frost @ 20C.

What could be more reminiscent of the Victorian
age than these plush rooster combs of velvety
bloom? Tight clusters of red, pink or yellow in this

This is an old variety that people are discovering
again. It is a beautiful foliage plant that is great for

'Kosmos' is Greek for beautiful. Well named for its
graceful form and glowing colours. One of the most
adaptable and versatile of all the easy annuals. A true
"cut and come again"; cutting stems for bouquets
only encourages more side-shoots and more flowering right through fall. Introduced in the early 1900’s.

The gardener’s love affair with the Sweet Pea goes
back to 1699 to the cool, mountainous pastures of
Sicily where it was ‘discovered’ by an Italian monk.
We soak the seeds, sow them directly in fertile soil

Originally used in the middle ages as a cure all, it
has now been overtaken by the kitchen. Use it in
meat dishes and poultry stuffing. The flavour
strengthens when it is dried so use it discreetly.
Fresh leaves can be kept in the refrigerator for a few
days. Store ground leaves in an airtight container.

Salvia sclaria
A fetching biennial with long-lasting mauve flowers
that bloom fully all along 3’ stems, large heart-shaped
leaves and a pungent grapefruit scent Sun, welldrained sail. D.S. in spring. Ht. 1 m. Sp. 45 cm. II. Zone
5-9.

Rosmarinus officinalis
It's strong pungent flavour goes great with meat
dishes, especially lamb. A sprig placed on a roasting
leg lends the meat an incomparable flavour. Fresh
sprigs will keep for several days in a plastic bag or
set stems in water in the refrigerator. Keep dried
leaves in an airtight container in a cool place away
from light. Just before using, crush the dried leaves
to release the flavour. Perennial.

MOTHER OF THYME, WILD THYME
Thymus serpyllum
Brewed as a tea, thyme has been known to relieve
shortness of breath, congested lungs, stomach
cramps, whooping cough and asthma. This low growing plant will form a heavenly carpet of deep purple
when in flower. It was once planted as a bed for
fairies. Thriving on poor soil, thyme needs temperatures of 20oC to germinate. Perennial. Zones 4-9. Tr.

Thymus vulgarism
There are very few dishes that cannot be improved
by thyme. It aids digestion of fatty foods. Its flavour
blend well with other herbs, especially rosemary.
Even in the garden they are very aromatic. Keep
dried leaves in an airtight container in a cool dry

Petroselinum crispum
An all time cook's favorite for versatility and enhancing especially the flavour of beans and peas.
Harvest the leaves just before the plant flowers.
Store fresh leaves in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator. Dried leaves retain their flavour for a considerable long time if store in a sealed container
away from light. Annual.

Calamintha nepeta
Originally grown as a culinary and medicinal herb, this
aromatic, rich flavoured plant is now mostly grown
as an ornamental. It has masses of lilac to white flowers that bloom from early summer until Autumn. A
real bee and butterfly magnet. Perennial. D.S. in
spring. Ht. 30-50 cm.

PEPPERMINT
Mentha piperita
A vigorous growing herb with aromatic leaves which
are used in teas, cooking and potpourris. In summer
it bears small lilac-pink flowers. Easy to grow but can
get invasive. Perennial. Zones 3-7. Ht. to 70 cm.
Parsley is a rich source of vitamins and minerals. It
enhances the flavour of salads, soups, stews and is

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
FOREIGN ORDERS
Florabunda Seeds guarantees that within 1-3 days
of receiving your order, it will be filled and mailed
to you first class. (Except after the initial influx
following our big mail-out in January. Those orders
can take up to a week. If you are in a rush as early
as January, please indicate it on your envelope.)
Some foreign orders may require a physosanitary
certificate. A surcharge is made to orders requiring
this certificate.
MAILING LIST
We respect your privacy and we do not sell or lend
our mailing list to anyone.
CONDITION OF SEED
All seed is untreated. Our seeds are fresh and you
should expect good germination and a bountiful
yield, given the right growing conditions. As is
customary in the trade, though, we need to let you
know that we will not be held responsible for any
losses which might occur in the event of a crop
failure. Our warranty is limited to replacing your
seed or substituting for another variety.
SEED STORAGE
Store seeds away from heat and moisture, in a
dark, cool place.
RETURNS
Any returns must be authorized by Florabunda
Seeds and must be returned prepaid. A refund will
be issued upon receipt of seeds in unopened,
undamaged packets.
EDIBILITY
Please note that unless stated that a plant is
edible, it is advisable to research it before doing so.
Many plants and seeds are toxic, so please be
careful.
SUBSTITUTIONS
We keep ample quantities of seed on hand. In the
event that we run out of a variety, we will either
substitute with what you indicate on the order
form or give credit.
