Moon Bay Dwarf Nandina Nandina domestica 'Moon Bay' Height: 4 feet Spread: 4 feet Sunlight: Hardiness Zone: 6 Other Names: Heavenly Bamboo Description: This dwarf evergreen shrub is a definite winner with its brilliant red fall and winter color and orange-red fruit; excellent in mass plantings for textural effect; can use in containers or as edging Ornamental Features: Moon Bay Dwarf Nandina has attractive green foliage which emerges light green in spring. The narrow compound leaves are ornamentally significant and turn an outstanding scarlet in the fall. The flowers are not ornamentally significant. It features an abundance of magnificent orange berries in late winter. The smooth bark is not particularly outstanding. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage. This shrub will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. It has no significant negative characteristics. Moon Bay Dwarf Nandina is recommended for the following landscape applications; - General Garden Use - Mass Planting - Container Planting - Groundcover - Accent - Border Edging Plant Characteristics: Moon Bay Dwarf Nandina will grow to be about 4 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 30 years. This shrub performs well in both full sun and full shade. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.
