CHIHUAHUA NEWS DATABASE/HEMEROTECA DIGITAL DE CHIHUAHUA
The Chihuahua News Database, provided by Información Procesada(INPRO), contains
full text articles from Mexican newspapers and magazines from and about the state of
Chihuahua and the border region. Most of the information in the database is in Spanish,
although it does contain articles from the El Paso Times and some other English
language sources. In addition to local papers from Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua, the
database contains articles that pertain to Chihuahua and the northern border region from
many other Mexican publications. Time coverage: 1976 to the present.
Access to the Chihuahua News Database is password protected and is limited to NMSU
students, faculty and staff. Please call the NMSU Library Reference Desk at 505-6465792, or Molly Molloy at 505-646-6931, or email Molly Molloy, [email protected] for
login and password information and for assistance in using the database.

Llaves = search keys or fields
Autor = author
Titulo = headline
Entrada = lead
Fecha = date
Fuente = source (publication title)
Lugar de edicion = place of publication
Nota = article text [usually the best search]
Pagina = page

Login: nmsu
Password: library
Then click “entrar”
To begin a search, click “Iniciar
Busqueda (Begin search)” At the
next screen, click “Busqueda” or
“Cambio de Bancos de Datos” to
change the date range of your
search. The default database
(Banco actual) is 2004.
Click “Agregar criterio (add terms).
Choose a “Llave (search key)”
In most cases, you will get the best
results with “Nota” which searches
the full text of articles. When you
choose “Nota” the “Operador”
automatically changes to
“Contenga (contains). If you search
by “Fecha” the operators will
change to allow you to put in a
date range.
Type search terms in the box
labeled “Elemento de
comparacion”
!!!Enclose ALL search terms in
“quotation marks” even single
words!!!!!
Combine search terms using operators (must be
capitals)
Y = AND
O = OR
A few more search examples:
“new mexico state university”
("maquilas" O "maquiladoras") Y "china"
“guadalupe morfin”
“feminicidio”
“desaparecidos” Y “familiares”
(“desaparecidos” O “muertas” O “muertos”) Y
“investigacion” Y “justicia”
("senador" O "senator") Y "Bingaman"
Example:
“narco”
“narco” Y “violencia”
Take care to search terms several
different ways. Spanish language
articles may use different spellings
for English words or names. The
database contains no controlled
vocabulary. If the word or name is
misspelled in the database, it won’t
show up in your search results
(unless you misspell it the same
way…)
Search Results
Display, print, save
To see search results, click the button next to the article
you want to see. Articles can be displayed (one at a time) in
several formats: WORD, HTML, PDF.
The full text of the article will
display in a new window. WORD
format can be saved as a file to be
printed later. PDF format can be
saved to disk or printed out. HTML
can also be copied and pasted into
a document for printing or saving.
There is no way (that I have discovered) to mark records for
printing or emailing. Each article must be displayed, printed
or saved individually.
You can also copy and paste the
text into an email message.
!!!LOGOUT INFORMATION!!!
Since only one user can get into this
database at a time, be sure to click the
SALIR button to logout of the system
when you are finished searching. Do not
just close the browser window.
